Summary: Don't skimp on a refurbished machine if you can. Buy a new product with support and software included. I am very unhappy with my purchase and will never buy a refurbished laptop again.
Pros: It is a good looking machine with a nice finish and full keyboard. Large hard drive
Cons: Windows 8, no support, no software, refurbished. Within a week of receiving the laptop it stopped working. It is stuck on Windows update loop and needs a full restore or boot. Want to restore the machine to OEM? You can't because there is no software included, no windows disc to boot from. I called ASUS support and was promptly put on hold. This is a completely unreliable machine. You get what you pay for I guess.
Summary: Well, I have never had to call tech support for any other computer I have owned. I have over the last 8 years owned 4 other Asus computers. This one must have been a Monday or a Friday machine. Just a lemon. Crashed twice during the obligatory Windows 8 updates, then I had no audio, then it died completely during Windows 8.1 upgrades. I had to call Asus tech support 3 times in one day and the last time the CSR told me it was pooched.
Summary: After several recommendations, I purchased an ASUS laptop. It took me about 6 months to get use to the smaller keyboard. By that time, however, the letters on the keys were wearing off. In addition, after 13 months, the keyboard started skipping keystrokes. I would type a word and only some of the letters would appear on the screen. Now the computer is freezing up on me. I will be typing away and all of a sudden it just stops.
ASUS 550c - A big disappointment - waste of money & cheated by Dealer and ASUS
Raghavendra Chamiraju, Amazon
9 February 2014
Summary: Having horrible experiances with this ASUS X550C. I bought it from a local store in Hyderabad for a wooping Rs.43,000. Having keyboard, DVD drive issues (makes loud noice and does not read the Drivers CD itself) and the screen as well- I have been cheated. If you are typing, the cursor lands somewhere else. Having lot of trouble in typing. The MOST DISAPPOINTING LAPTOP and a huge loss to me .. Not sure it is a gambling price or someone played a dirty trick on flipkart !
Summary: Purchased this laptop for our son for school in early August after researching several brands and my own experience with an Asus tablet. Unfortunately, this laptop has been a disappointment. He's had problems with it freezing/becoming unresponsive to the point that the only way to get it working again is to do a hard reboot.
Summary: This laptop has been nothing but trouble. The touchpad will sometimes randomly get locked in the fully depressed position and it will stay there. There is only one audio jack, for both headphones and mics and I wouldn't have a problem with this except that every time I plug in headphones I have to go through the process of opening the audio manager and selecting that the device I have plugged in were headphones before I can hear anything.
Summary: The hinge mechanism is faulty workmanship. I bought the laptop in August 2013. The hinge broke and because it is molded to the LCD, ASUS is expecting me to pay $165 as well as shipping ($30.00) for the repair. ASUS will not stand by its warranty even though the hinge initially broke after my owning it only 2 weeks. I have never written a negative review before. However, my frustration with ASUS is extremely high.
Summary: Bought this computer two months ago to skype with our grand-kids. The internal microphone did not work. Sent to repair facility and all they did was return it with a new OS load but no fix for the microphone issue. Sent it in again where it has been sitting for 2 weeks with no ECD status. Numerous calls to ASUS support center with no positive results.
