Summary: Got this laptop for $200 new on a black Friday special. Very high quality ASUS but the "Green" 5,400 rpm HD is so slow it took 75 seconds for Windows 7 to reach the password screen. Replaced it with a 120G SSD. Very usable machine now for still less than $300, recommend with 5 stars after SSD mod, incredible 5 hour battery life is now even longer.
Summary: I bought this Asus model over a year ago and have had no problems with it. I mainly use it for surfing the net, some e-mail and a few online games thrown in. I have not used the camera/microphone function much, but it appears to do the job when provided with adequate lighting. When just playing online games or surfing the net, the battery will last a tad over 5 hours and charges quickly even while the computer is in use.
Summary: Overall, I am very happy with this laptop. It has a lot to offer for such a modest price! In spite of a few minor complaints, this is a great system, worth more than the asking price. I was very much attracted by the price but was a little wary - I was unsure what compromise might have been made to drive down the price. Did not want to spend too much because I only need a light-duty machine for Internet, E-Mail, and playing DVD movies while away from home traveling.
Summary: I got one this model on Black Friday 2011. Mine had a small problem with the "5" key not working in the top row. I took it back where I purchased it from and they got it straightened out. Since then it has been behaving very well. It runs quite cool and quiet. The screen is brightly lit; almost too bright for me even at its lowest setting.
Summary: picked up this model asus the other day at american electronics for 300 and it's nothing too fancy, but works well and stays cool.had to delete some crapware and set it up as i like which took a couple days, so we're happy with it so far and it comes with the 1 yr. warranty, which covers EVERYTHING..+ hope my mom enjoys this as her first computer, altho i seem to be using it more happy holidays everybody and god bless..
Excerpt: First off I should apologise for the lack of tech specs this review will cover, especially as I'm the kind of person whose head starts to spin when those kinds of numbers get spun off by the more tech savvy. Instead this review is based solely on my experience with the product. Despite originally getting this laptop as part of my phone contract renewal, it has continued to serve me well aswell as currently is my laptop I use for the majority of my work.
Pros: A good laptop for work / study, user friendly
Excerpt: I bought this laptop about 8 months ago (from all places ASDA) so have used it quite extensively. It was as a direct replacement for an older (3 year old) laptop that I had given to my son, but my selection criteria was pretty basic: o Large Screen o Reasonable performance o CHEAP o Wireless networking o CHEAP o DVD Rewriter (minimum) o CHEAP I did have a very limited budget, and with the discount I managed to get, this one worked out to be less than £300 What I like...
