Excellent product - but Windows 8 rained on the parade!

Summary: Top -of- the- line product, that ASUS S550CA. However, Windows 8 seems to be a bare-bottom, experimental platform. Office 365 is inexorably expensive, even at the cheapest option and often switches desktop displays on its own, intermittently. I can readily recommend the ASUS VivoBook anytime, but not Windows 8 in its present form. A pity the program of choice wasn't as reliable as Windows 7.
Summary: When I bought this notebook I was not expecting it to be so thin! I love it. Has a disc drive and 3 USB ports and even an SD reader. Light and absolutely amazing. I love ASUS products. It's an i5 but runs the new final fantasy xiv perfectly when on Asus' performance feature. Battery life isn't the best but it does what I need it to (college and short periods of gaming--I have a desktop otherwise).
Summary: I was going to buy the 14'' non touch screen version of this laptop from my local BJs until I saw this one on amazon. For an extra $70 I added a bit of size to the screen and the touch screen capabilities. It's great, I love it so far! The design is sleek, the keyboard responds great, and overall the laptop functions well with windows 8. The only down side is that it weighs like a normal laptop, although it is skinny like a notebook.
ASUS VivoBook S550CA-DS51T 15.6-Inch Laptop Review
1 August 2013
Summary: I have only owned my ASUS computer for about two weeks. So far I haven't had any problems except for the following: 1. The touchpad sometimes takes extra strokes to respond to the given command. For instance, when you tap the pad with both fingers it is the equivalent of right-clicking the mouse. However, this feature does not always respond on the first few trys. Sometimes it does not respond at all and I have to click the right button on the pad.
Summary: I like the computer, but the new Windows is very confusing. Trying my best to get used to it! I heard that they're working on a new one to simplify things. Can't wait for that to come out. I'll be first in line to download it!
Summary: I like it. The laptop is exactly what I required as I am using more for personal projects. Windows 8 a bit to get used to but the system has a Windows 8 tutorial and it has been very helpful. I also like that I can go bewtween touch screen and keyboard. Overall, I would say a good value.
Summary: I absolutely love the look, fit, and finish of the ASUS VivoBook S550CA-DS51T. It's pretty amazing that the overall thickness of this laptop is under an inch and yet it has a DVD R/RW drive. Battery life and the performance are on par per the price. The one thing I'm not crazy about is the operating system Windows 8. To me at least, Microsoft took a step back compared to Windows 7 only because its more complicated; not as familiar as the previous versions.
Thin and not THAT heavy...an ultrabook that has good functions.
24 June 2013
Summary: PROS: -I am so particular with the weight, since I travel a lot, and I carry my laptop so I can do my work anytime, anywhere. I am not disappointed coz with all the functions i.e. optimal drive, and great cooling fan (no noise at all), the laptop is light as what I expected. Compared to my former one HP..its optimal drive was the culprit..making it heavy. -Cooler...battery does not overheat. I can put it on my lap, still will not make any complaints about it.
Summary: When I fist picked up the computer after receiving it, I was like "wow! is that it?" I've never had a computer this thin. It didn't feel like a normal laptop in my hands. I really like how thin and light it is. The display is great. (personally I don't need super high-definition or anything like that) The almost edge to edge glass gives the screen a nice look. It is definitely built to last being made almost entirely out of aluminum.
