Summary: The wireless adapter (Atheros AR9485WB-EG) used in this laptop has sub-par performance. I had a DOCSIS 2.0 modem and a LinkSys WRT-400N router and it was constantly dropping the connection. I recently upgraded to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem and RT-AC66U and the reception from the ASUS S500CA didn't get much better.
Summary: This Vivobook S500CA is the second Asus which I have owned. I purchased my other in 2010 and paid about the same amount of money for it. As with most things, the quality seems to be diminishing, specifically, the keyboard. Asus appears to have tried to make a buck by producing a lower cost keyboard than they they did previously. The keys on this keyboard are almost identical in looks but do not perform at all like the earlier model.
Summary: Lets just say this thing is coming apart. All was well when i first purchased this ultra book but through normal use the screws that hold the bottom on are breaking loose from the plastic due to opening and closing the lid.
Summary: The touch pad would get stuck in down position when clicked. This was an out of box defect. I sent the unit off to the asus repair center and they fixed it. It took about a week for the repair. Asus covered all costs as the unit was under warranty. Unit is currently working fine.
Touchscreen glitching - exchanging for replacement.
David H., Amazon
5 December 2013
Summary: I only used it for 2 hours before touchscreen started glitching and registering touches both while the computer was being touched and when not touched at all - even several minutes after not being touched. I am returning it - super easy with Amazon- and am going to get a replacement and give it one more try.
Summary: The specifications for the ASUS Ultrabook S500CA-DS51 are good. The problem I encountered was poor construction. The keyboard is warped and as a result the keys are displaced rendering the keyboard impossible to touch-type upon.
Summary: The laptop looks good and works fine with a few quirks, such as the lid being somewhat difficult to grab to open and since it's a touchscreen you'd expect it to be more solid, however when you touch the screen it it wobbles... ha! that is weird. I just spent a couple of hours trying to pair my Jawbone Jambox bluetooth speaker and I tried everything unsuccessfully.
