Others might have received a dud? Mine works GREAT

Summary: I've owned this laptop for more than 2 years now, and I must say, IT IS STILL WORKING LIKE A CHAMP!! I just recently replaced the hdd (only thing that failed on me) with a 128gb Crucial m4 SSD, and now it FLIES! This laptop would make current stock i3,i5, even i7 processing laptops look SLOW. I even bumped up the memory to 8gb with 2x4GB Crucial RAM from here.
Summary: Asus makes a really good product, but you have to get used to the idiosyncracies of the start-up screens. I use it as my back-up computer to my HP, and so far it has been great. I had had it for a couple of years, and I like the longer battery life a lot.
Summary: 3-MONTH UPDATE . After suffering through the trackpad (Elan Smart Pad) for a few months, I finally searched the control panel to try and deal with its BAD behavior [under control panel, in small icons view, select mouse, and Elan is the option for the smartpad]. As a test, I disabled scrolling but also have the option to turn off the device entirely it seems.
Summary: This is hands down the best work laptop I have ever used. When I made the purchase I did not intend to use it for work, but I cannot use any other laptop now. I brand-spanking new Dell provided by the company with better specs, but I never use it. The form is absolutely beautiful; I love the brushed aluminum lid. The keyboard is perfect. The full sized keys are easy to hit and avoid fat-fingering. The track-pad is the first that does not make me wish that I had a mouse.
Summary: Pros: Long battery life (minimum 8 hours, max 11) Solid performance Light weight Won't burn your lap Cons: The track pad and buttons were terrible designed - easy solution is a USB mouse I have owned this laptop for over a year now and have never been so pleased. I use this as my business lap top and it can take of business very well.
Summary: Okay for those of you who don't want to read a detailed review, read section a. If you have time, skip to section b. a) This laptop is powerful and portable enough to take anywhere, so long as you can live with some fingerprints. It also lasts like 8 hours on a single charge. b) Let's start with the battery life. The Asus ul80vt-a1 comes with a huge 8-cell battery. I can see a lot of users actually not needing the amount of battery life available.
Pros: Fast, Lightweight, Long Battery Life, Powerful, Quality Display, Quiet
Solid Laptop with Superior Energy & Battery Management

Summary: When I shopped for a laptop, my first priority was battery life (which is sometimes up to 8-10 hours on a normal day), followed by overall system power and capability. What I think is really cool about this laptop is that you can switch from integrate graphics to discrete graphics with the touch of a button. I'm not in the laptop market very often, but I seriously doubt you can find that on another laptop brand.
Summary: if you are looking for a laptop to put in your backpack every morning so you can: browse the internet, do homework online, write, listen to music, watch youtube etc. and not worry when your batteries will run out THEN THIS THE PRODUCT FOR YOU. Every day I during class I see people rushing to get to the seat next to the outlet. The battery on this is incredible. Even of full power it lasts 6 hours. On power save mode it lasts around 12H.
Summary: I consider myself a power user and I am very happy with this product. The battery life is amazing, probably the best I have ever seen in a laptop and it is relatively fast. Pros: -EXCELLENT battery life. I usually get around 9 hours battery life unless I am playing games but then I still get around 3-4 hours.
