Summary: 3-MONTH UPDATE . After suffering through the trackpad (Elan Smart Pad) for a few months, I finally searched the control panel to try and deal with its BAD behavior [under control panel, in small icons view, select mouse, and Elan is the option for the smartpad].
Summary: if you are looking for a laptop to put in your backpack every morning so you can: browse the internet, do homework online, write, listen to music, watch youtube etc. and not worry when your batteries will run out THEN THIS THE PRODUCT FOR YOU.
