Summary: I have had this ultrabook for around 6 months now... There has been one issue with it shutting off randomly when I first got it and the start menu would never load until rebooting... I have since installed two "patches" and haven't had the start menu issue in around 4 months.. The randomly restarting has only happened once since the patch 2 months ago and hasn't been a major issue any more... I do save my work frequently just in case...
Summary: Had this laptop for a year w. Win8. Hated every second with this laptop (fortunately, this is one of ~ 6 PCs in this house, so I didn't have to use it exclusively)...but it never made any sense why it was so slow, the specs are pretty decent, esp with the dedicated SSD for boot. Rating based on Win8 performance = 0 stars (or negative, if that was possible) SO, I took a chance on installing Linux (Mint 16, x64, Cinnamon Desktop). Night and day difference in performance.
Summary: I bought this because I know that ASUS is a good brand. I like the features and the looks of the laptop. PROS: - Good Specs I5 CPU, 6GB DDR3 1600MHz memory - I like the ASUS Smart Gesture - Looks very appealing - Large track pad - USB 3.0 (There could be more but one is enough) - HDMI - Good battery life CONS: - Screen could be higher def like 1080p and not 768p - Randomly shuts off (like once every day) - Crappy disc drive.
Summary: I rate this purchase at 4 stars and not 5 not because of the product itself but, because I had to do some work to get the Ultrabook to work. It was highly unstable in the condition it arrived. It turns out that the OS load was faulty resulting in the Blue Screen of Death several times a day. I updated the system to Win 8.1 hoping this would stabilize my system but, that didn't work. I had to reload Win 8 from scratch and this resolved the problem.
Summary: Overall, a very good computer. The screen has some "shadows" at the top, which are irritating although nothing seems to be blocked. I was told I would have to leave the computer with them if I want this fixed, and I can't be without it for a couple days, so I'll just live with it. Very lightweight, and Windows 7 is the way to go.
