  • Summary: Okay, I've dealt with and investigated the touchpad issue for a while. I can see no way, in Linux, to get it working as a touchpad should. Although, I no longer believe it's stuck in middleclick mode. It seems to be rightclicking regardless of which "button" is used. I also tried Windows 7 (I think I just puked in my mouth a little) and the short amount of time I spent with it in Windows indicates to me that the situation is the same. My initial assessment stands.
  • Pros: No changes.
  • Cons: Again, no changes. See below.

  • Summary: As a whole, it makes a good family laptop. Rugged enough for children to use without constant supervision. Fast enough for adults to be comfortable multitasking. If I'm right about the touchpad, be prepared to use an external mouse and lose one of the 3 USB's.
  • Pros: Fairly light but still decently solid construction. Installing Debian "Wheezy" in UEFI mode went flawlessly. As a whole, it's fairly swift and handles anything I ask it to do with relative ease. It's not lightning quick but it's not meant to be. Lid hinges seem pretty sturdy. Elegant looking design.
  • Cons: I was slightly disappointed to see Hynix RAM in it but not enough to take an egg. Besides, I got some Samsung RAM and may put that in it. What cost it the fifth egg is the touchpad. It's absolute garbage. Right clicking just initiates a left click. Using a left click hold and the pad itself, i.e to expand a window, is impossible. However, it's possible that it's stuck in middle click mode. I'll have to look into that further. I'll report back on the touchpad in a few ...
