Summary: This laptop is decent. After I booted it up and went into Windows to perform Microsoft Updates, I noticed a spot on the display, thought it was dust. No, it was a dead pixel!!!! Deduct a star! Took about 15 - 20 minutes to get all the crapware off the thing, deduct a star. Other than that, the laptop is sliiiiiiick looking. Digging the custom lit vents up by the power button, also, very cool looking power button. Controls on the keyboard are great.
Summary: First of all, this is a layman's review. I'm highly proficient with computers, I can fix most simple issues in a heartbeat, and they're intuitive as far as I'm concerned. However, I still don't know much about them. I know the hard drive size (500 GBs) the RAM (4 GBs)and that it has an amazing graphics processor (which was the dealbreaker for me). And that is it. I've owned my Asus for nearly a year now. It is my fourth laptop computer, and it is by far my favorite.
Summary: I got fed up with HP laptops' bad quality and Dell inspiron keyboards and thought I would give a try to Asus and bought this in Amazon. What a waste of money it has turned out to be. At first everything looked good. Then things started falling apart: 1. The DVD driver never worked correctly right from the beginning.
Summary: I love the laptop. I've had it for a year and a month, and it does everything I want it to do for a business and entertainment machine. But when they say Asus has terrible customer service, they are NOT kidding. It's not that they're rude. The nice representatives in Jamaica are very friendly. They just don't have the training to understand what you need, or have access to the data about a repair.
Summary: I would give this laptop 4 stars, but bump it up to 5 due to its cheap cost and the incredible endurance it has. Pros: 1. Speed - the i5 processor is way faster than I anticipated... even bootup speed is great. 2. Video and video card - very high quality, the 1GB video card makes a huge difference with videos/gaming 3. ENDURANCE - this is a unique "pro.
Summary: My battery failed 10 month later of purchasing. And there is no service center in Texas. I need 1 month in total to get my computer repaired. I have lots of jobs everyday. How can I live without a computer for one month??? Plus, I could not start the computer properly since one month later of my purchase. I need to spend 30 minutes to start it sometimes. And recently, the battery totally failed. The speaker is not as well as it describes, too.
Summary: Bought my ASUS N61JV-X2 from Amazon.com in April 2010. After 8 months usage, the battery stop charging also had numerous system failure. Contacted Asus support for help and they REPLIED IN SPANISH. By the way my request for help was in English(the only language that I speak) Am totally fed up with this laptop.
Summary: I like this machine so far. Not sure why I bought it, because my desktop has fit the bill for quite some time. Everything seems to be working. I guess I've got some portability now--probably more computer than I really needed, but at least I won't have to think about buying another one for some years to come. Good price for sure. Still, I could have purchased 57 large 3 topping pizzas for the same price....
Summary: I was excited when I received my N61JV last week and have been using it heavily ever since I got it (moving out useless bloatware, installing programs & driver updates, etc). I'm a fairly fast touch-typer and right out of the box I noticed that the keyboard seemed a bit flimsy and very loud (sort of rattles when you type). Then, after a few days of heavy use, I noticed that the 'rattling' was getting louder and seemed to be much worse on the left side keys.
