Summary: I will be careful about trusting ASUS with any more refurbished orders, you probably should too.
Pros: Good Deal
Cons: I just received this laptop today. I have ordered refurbished units from ASUS before without any problem. This item showed up with the plastic border around the screen broken and noticeable scratches on top. I am so disgusted that the Quality Control at ASUS would ship out a unit that was clearly broken - what does that say about their quality control and respect for their customer. Now since it was a refurbished unit I cannot get a refund and have to get a replacemen...
Summary: I was forced to ship this item to California and sit and wait two weeks for a replacement
Pros: Unit arrived timely fashion
Cons: Did not have all accessories (specialized for this laptop subwoofer speaker). Unit HDD clicking from first use even when idle, indicative of a defective hard drive. Video graphic card driver upgrade blue screened the laptop, need to be restored. Unit subsequently crashed three more times and was restore again one more time then shut down and shipped back
Summary: Ordered the Asus laptop on 9/9/12. It was fast and worked fine. The only thing I didn't like is that it was alot bigger than I thought a 15" would be and it's heavy. On 11/8 I was even bragging to co-workers how great and inexpensive it was and then the next morning I went to turn it on and the keyboard lit up and the Asus logo came on the screen and then it went black.
Summary: I had to return this laptop three different times for replacements for numerous problems. I am extremely disappointed in this laptop as it has amazing specs for the price but has way too many defects. 3/3 laptops with defects? Not very good statistics. I WILL note that Amazon was excellent in returning and shipping out the replacement laptops.
Summary: I purchased this laptop 3 weeks ago. Upon arrival I noticed that it was making vey unusual sounds while playing videos, listening to music, etc.... I contacted ASUS Customer Support and they asked that I reinstall the audio and video drivers. I did this and again it was still having problems. They then provided me with an RMA number and it was sent in to the ASUS Repair Center.
Summary: Computer wouldn't boot up past initial setup. Tried playing with different setting & using the recovery disk, nothing worked. Called Asus, went through troubleshooting. CSR said I could RMA (it would take 2 weeks) or I could return it to the Retailer. I really like the specs & design, but Asus quality control apparently thinks it's ok to ship Refurbished Laptops to new customers. I won't be able to recommend them to anyone, ever!! Going to order the Dell 15R Inspiron SE.
Summary: My son really loved this laptop. It was big and heavy but quite powerful. He could play his games without problems. However after 2 weeks it suddenly wouldn't boot. I tried booting from a repair CD, from a USB stick with linux. I kept getting boot sequence error. Asus support said it was hardware fault and sent me a mailing label. However, I decided to return it to Amazon and buy a different laptop. Maybe it was just a fluke, but it shouldn't happen.
Summary: I was hoping to give a good review for this laptop since it seemed to be a real nice computer. I opened the poorly packaged box which was just a bit larger than the Asus box itself and plugged it in. On first boot I heard a few weird noises coming from under the hood, but thought nothing of it. The process to get to the "Starting Windows" screen took longer than I anticipated and the animated logo was hesitating and skipping. I wrote it off as a normal first-time thing.
Asus N56VM - update - possible solution to lagging problems
18 October 2012
Summary: I purchased one model a few weeks ago from one supplier but it was returned as the ATK0100 driver was not loaded, internet kept crashing and there was loud sound and image distortions (buzzing and freezing) when watching bbc iplayer and itv. Bought the same laptop a couple of days ago through another supplier but found exactly the same issues.
