Summary: I can't believe I wasted 1000 dollars on a notebook online I can't get fixed. I ordered it online because I couldn't get to any places to get one. They really need to tell if you have to repair if you have to ship it yourself and pay for it. I looked online well for this information and could not find it.
Pros: It's ok, very pretty to look at.
Cons: They do not fix the notebooks unless you pay and ship them to them. I have a DvD player that I notice was dented. No place near me where I can get a box and ship the laptop. Also, you shipping it can cause more damage if you don't have it boxed up well.
Pros: The price is great for the amount of quality hardware in this machine. The GPU runs like a beast... when you can get it to work.
Cons: If you're not tech savvy you're going to have a bad time. There is a huge problem with the N56JR that ASUS refuses to address. If you aren't up to date on your computer lingo you won't really know know what I'm talking about. I'll try to describe it the best way I can for everyone to understand. The way a motherboard talks to certain pieces of hardware attached to it is through software called drivers. Drivers need to be up to date all the time for your machine to run...
Summary: It was probably luck (or lack thereof) of the draw that I got a faulty laptop. It's still a well built laptop with decent specs. ASUS technical support was also very supportive and helpful in helping me verify the issue.
Pros: Very well designed laptop; solidly built chassis with a great keyboard and a decent touchpad.
Cons: Mine shipped with a faulty GPU. Looking in device manager I saw a yellow triangle with an exclamation point on the NVIDIA GTX 760M device; opening the device properties showed windows stopped the device with an error 43.
Pros: Price for performance. - hard to beat, this laptop has specs similar to $1400 and up laptops.
Cons: No recovery disc - Apparently windows 8 has a "refresh" function that takes the place of recovery/installation discs. This laptop comes with a recovery partition that is essentially the recovery discs. Also it seems (or i haven't found it) there is no way to MAKE recovery media. Personally I like having physical DVD/CDs. DVDs also come in handy if you want to change the hard drive and reinstall. No discs means that to swap a hard drive you need to make a disc image wi...
Summary: Very, very frustrating to go into their website. And they want to sell cloud services..
Pros: Excellent laptop. Everything I wanted. I replaced HDD with 480GB Crucial SSD and the laptop rocks. Very, very fast.
Cons: ASUS website sucks. I have been trying for 10 days to register the laptop. You cannot get warranty without registration. Website constantly hangs up and I cannot complete registration either via their registration app in the laptop or via a browser.
Pros: Forgot to say they give you 90 days to get warranties. Something very rare I see now a days. It gives you time to get the money to get a 3 year warranty for everything. Meaning, you drop it, spill, anything. You got the warranty to get it replaced each time.
Cons: Also takes along time to load. I had forgotten that HDD are like this. Hard drive is something that you should replace.
