Pros: This is my first refurbished purchase, so I was expecting the worst when I got got it. But my doubts were definitely misplaced as This is a great and powerful machine and runs all of my games on ultra with zero problems. Great product!!
Cons: Came with windows 8 and it was a pain trying to update it to 8.1. This is a windows problem though, not a computer problem.
Summary: Shipping was very fast. The first thing I did, before even turning it on the first time, was take out the 750GB 7200RPM HDD that came with it and put in my own 256GB SSD. I then installed Win 8.1 and spent the next couple hours fiddling with drivers as the nVidia display driver kept throwing an error and shutting off. I'd reinstall, it would work, and then after a restart stop working again. Very frustrating but the ROG forums were helpful.
Pros: -The price is great for the hardware contained
Cons: -So far the one con that I have really noticed is the screen quality. It seems the refresh rate isn't that great or something because things go blurry as I scroll through screens and the contrast is not up to par. I'll work to adjust settings to see if it improves
Summary: Good job. Sometimes I have to double click the mouse to type. That's the problem Im having and the CD drive door isn't flush, I think it's cause of the mods and Ethernet port is I little loose.
Excerpt: The Asus N56jr is a awesome laptop, I have mine just over a moth now and very pleased with it. It has a full HD screen(1920x1080) not the HD screen(1366x768) like in the description of the laptop. The GTX 760m is a great graphics card, the Bang & Olufsen speakers deliver powerful and rich sound with no distortion. The build quality of the laptop is solid . The only drawback I could find is that is has no back lit keyboard.
Summary: I'm not a gamer. I got this machine for my daughter to edit videos, photos, music and maybe play a few games, so a fast hard disk & lots of RAM seemed to be required. My daughter is very happy and prefers a mouse over a track pad so it has been hard to get the machine away from her long enough to install different drivers and run tests.
Pros: Great looks with an aluminum skin, loaded with 16GB RAM, 7200 RPM 750GB hard disk and a pretty good second video card that should give super performance. The monitor is also HD quality and the machine feels very solid, not cheap and plasticy. The Windows 8 can be upgraded to Windows 8.1 or downgraded to Windows 7. The drivers on the Asus site all seemed to work (except maybe the trackpad). When the trackpad is working the gestures are pretty slick and emulate the feel...
Cons: The trackpad may be a little flakey. After I streamed a movie the pointer started to skip around erratically when I slid it across the surface, although the tapping gesture still worked as a button. It started working correctly after a reboot and hasn't happened again.
Summary: Spend days looking for a laptop in this price and as I was about to buy a MSI GE60 I found this. Nothing to say, far better than the HP Envy and MSI. All you have to consider changing your hdd for ssd, since it is very slow.
Summary: Awesome performance, great looking and faire pricing laptop is what comes to mind when I think about this Laptop. After owning diferente PC based laptops, this great computer feels a lot different. Since I'm not into MS Windows world, first thing I did was install GNU/Linux on it, and everything went smoothly. Just happy with it!
