Summary: The jury is still out on this one since I've only had it a few days. After I rebooted it the machine went to reconfigure Windows and kept failing. After starting it again today everything worked fine. I'm going to see how things go this next week and re-evaluate. At that point I'll modify my review either better or worse.
Pros: - Nice clean look
Cons: - Failed to refresh Windows updates on first tries at rebooting
Summary: Stay away from this brand if you are not ready fight for months on the phone with customer service
Pros: It is a decent computer until it fails...
Cons: Horrible repair service ... Horrible customer service ... I have a different version of this machine. I sent it to service center due to vertical streaks / lines on the screen. The computer was in mint condition before I sent it. It took them 1 month to supposedly repair the computer. When I received it I was very angry. The technician ruined the screen and super glued it together. There were glue stains everywhere. The fan didn't work. I hear a periodic clicking soun...
Summary: This laptop could so much better. I can clearly see where Asus clipped full corners to bring the price point down. For a bit more money I would rather see this laptop come with a 760M GPU rather than a 750M, and a 512GB SSD.
Summary: I have had this laptop for about a month now. I was deciding between this and a MacBook Pro 15.6" with Retina display, and I am quite sure now that I made the right choice. It has been a lovely experience thus far, but it is important to note that it doesn't come out of the box this way. It is very obvious how Asus managed to get the price of this laptop as low as it is, but still deliver this incredible package.
Summary: I really like it so far - it took a while to get all the Windows updates installed and working, but I now have it updated to the latest Windows 8.1 update and it's working well. After about half of the updates had installed, I tried playing a favorite game, and one of the updates must have affected the cooling policy, and the fans did not engage (causing the computer to overheat to more than 90 deg. C) - so make sure you finish your updates and reboot before gaming.
Pros: Excellent full-HD screen, good touchscreen, excellent graphics performance, has an optical drive, good value (features for the money)
Cons: A little heavy, a little thick, it's large compared to other 15" notebooks (this is NOT an ultrabook), the optical drive works well but would be nice if a blu-ray drive were available and if it were slot-load vs. tray-load, I think I would prefer a VGA port instead of a mini-display port, refurbished version does not include external subwoofer, optical drive bezel fit on bottom is not even (see other thoughts), battery life is OK but not great, power brick is HUGE
Summary: This is a fantastic computer, but the WiFi card it comes with is terrible (the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars). The range is about half of my last one, it drops the connection regularly, but it is an easy fix. I replaced the WiFi card with an Intel 7260HMW wireless AC card for about $30 and presto it was awesome! Just be careful with the T6 torx screws so you don't strip them. Overall the computer is quick, responsive, and well made.
Summary: I like my new Asus but there were a few features I didn't realize were missing. First (and most annoying) there are no external audio controls. When playing anything, I have to use software or keyboard shortcuts to control volume/mute/etc. Not the end of the world but something I always use and was surprised was missing. Also, I could have swore that "gray aluminum" meant a light colored metallic cover. But this one is nearly black.
