Summary: This is a very good computer for the price. There have been several negative reviews from people who were unhappy with Windows 8, but it is worth noting that this includes the free upgrade to Windows 8.1 which restores some of the functionality of Win7 including the return of the start button and the ability to boot straight to desktop (allowing the user to pretty much ignore the "tiles" completely if they wish). Personally, I like Win 8.
Summary: I use this Laptop for hobby microcontroller programming. The unit arrived quickly with WIn8 preinstalled. Removed Win8 and installed Win7 within 2 hours of receiving this unit. The Win7 install went smoothly and I have had no more external hardware compatibility issues. My only complaint is the mouse. You have to press extremely hard on the corners to activate the left and right buttons. Problem solved with wireless USB mouse.
Summary: I was skeptical about buying this, but I usually trust ASUS and I'm glad I did. Pros: Great performance Good for gaming (Skyrim is running smoothly on High as do most games I've tried) Cheap Cons: Trackpads suck no matter what... I suggest buying a cheap wireless mouse. Battery life is usually like 2 and a half hours Basically, it's good and cheap (a friend got a laptop for like 600$ and this one slays) which isn't something you usually find these days.
Summary: I needed a replacement for a 7-year-old laptop, and this seemed to be a decent replacement on paper. It does just what I need it to do. It does like to restart itself every couple days, which is annoying and I haven't figured out how to make it stop that. The mouse is pretty sensitive as well, and it'll jump to the start menu without my wanting it to, but I am pretty sure that's a Windows 8 glitch, not anything to do with the actual computer.
Summary: I've been using the laptop for about two months. i haven't encountered ANY problems at all. This lap top is great, the touch pad does take some getting used to since it is a new generation laptop and im more of a mouse with the wheel ball kinda guy. swiping on left to right on the bottom of the touch pad is equivalent to pressing the start button. which is annoying but you'll get used to not touching the bottom of it.
Summary: I got this computer off of Amazon on sale for $379 and it is worth it if you just need a computer for basic use. I.E. internet, Office documents, and looking at DVDs. I don't know how video games play on it. JPEGs and other picture files colors look a little distorted but nothing too bad considering the price. Funny enough DVDs look just fine. Good computer for school or casual use.
Summary: I haven't had the computer that long, but I've been playing on it and trying to figure everything out. The keyboard is really nice and it's also nice to finally have a number pad to the side. The display is crisp and we've tried out a few different games on it and it handles them well. I honestly don't see a difference in speed between this one and my 4 year old HP, but it's not like the HP was ever that slow. I'm still working on getting used to the touchpad.
