Worked Eventually.

Jake, Newegg
11 July 2014
  • Summary: Only had the notebook for a few days but the speed and functionality are plenty for my needs. Buttons are different from the Toshiba I am replacing, but I think I am liking the Asus layout better.
  • Pros: Newegg and Asus support were very understanding and helpful. Offered above and beyond what they were required to help me out with getting my notebook to described quality.
  • Cons: The notebook worked fine upon receiving it; however, it was not able to connec to wifi. After calling Asus tech support, it was discovered that it was missing the drivers. I had to factory reinstall to get the notebook to work properly.

Ol' Faithful

macdog, Newegg
2 July 2014
  • Summary: Had this laptop longer than any other in my lifetime. Since I bought it, it's been dropped, burned, cracked, taken apart and put together several times. In all that time, not once has it bluescreened, failed to boot or been inappropriately slow.
  • Pros: Affordable. Sturdy. Reliable. Ran games well (Skyrim, Dota 2)
  • Cons: Could have used more hard drive space. Not enough RAM to use as a work laptop for scientific data analysis

Second Try

N/A, Newegg
29 June 2014
  • Summary: This is the second try at this laptop. My previous rating was 1 egg due to obvious hardware defect.
  • Pros: Despite being marked scratch and dent, there are very few scratches on the case. A couple on the underside and one on the top. Nothing major, and easily ignored.
  • Cons: Nothing not announced by the specs. The screen is of a lower resolution that I may prefer and the system probably isn't the first choice for gaming or any form of power computing. Those are the only items preventing this from getting a higher rating.

"Refurbished" don't mean working

N/A, Newegg
14 June 2014
  • Summary: I would have thought "Refurbished" meant that the defective parts were replaced. I guess I was wrong. This is a buyer beware item.
  • Pros: The hardware is nice looking and the price was reasonable,.
  • Cons: The unit has defective RAM. After struggling over last night with random crashes, I downloaded and ran memtest86+. I guess I should not be surprised, but the unit was shipped with defect RAM that is returning 100s of errors in the memory testing.

Great linux laptop

JJ, Newegg
24 May 2014
  • Summary: If your comfortable with a linux laptop, this model is a good choice.
  • Pros: - works flawlessly with the latest linux distros (I am using ubuntu 14.04). I removed windows 7 as I intended to use this laptop for software development. Linux is my operating system of choice for that. No knock on windows, just my preference.
  • Cons: For what I paid, any negatives would be whining. Of course the display isn't quite as good as a macbook, but its about one third the price.

Good buy

N/A, Newegg
9 February 2014
  • Summary: This, even though refurbished, was a good buy. The durability of it proves it. I love having laptops that endure working as they should, specially this one with two operating systems, linux and windows.
  • Pros: Price, hardware, functionality.
  • Cons: None so far.
