Careful, there's some cheap hardware inside with known problems
3 November 2012
Summary: I love this laptop, for the most part, but some of the hardware is suspect. When I pay close to $2000 for a laptop I'm expecting near perfection. The first one of these I bought the single USB 3.0 port did not work properly; it would disconnect and reconnect the device every minute rendering it useless. Since there wasn't a spare 3.0 port this was a deal breaker. I asked to have it replaced through Amazon and as always their customer service was spot on.
Summary: Certainly powerful! Beware the keyboard, though. You MUST hit the keys directly or the stroke will not be registered. The touch pad also needs better software as it is very palm sensitive. Glad to be done with this computer for these reasons.
Computer might be ok, but 'ASUS Live Update' is an EPIC FAIL!

Summary: I have put off writing this review because I wanted this computer to work out for me. There are so many things I like about it, other than the annoying overly sensitive Touch Pad issue. Shutting off the Touch Pad when a mouse is connected is the solution for that I suppose. However, the real problem is that idiotic pre-installed 'ASUS Live Update' program.
Summary: Length:: 1:28 Mins Well.. this is a good laptop while it was working. After about 2 months the screen wouldnt come on. Then it wouldnt take any power. After paying 1600 dollars for this damn thing I had to RMA it, so add on about 50 dollars for shipping and a wasted 2 weeks. I didnt move this thing very much, it rarely came off the cooling stand i bought for it. Will write another review for when it returns.
Summary: Keyboard keys stuck or did not respond, and manufacturer suggested that I download their new keyboard driver. Because I wasn't familiar with Windows 7, its operating system, Bing took me to its own website, instead of the Asus URL that I had entered. So, I selected an Asus driver site from the Bing list, and unfortunately ended up at an alleged Norton phisher site and downloaded the alleged driver, which in turn disabled the computer.
Summary: Since buying this product I've been trying to get some support for the oversensitive Touchpad. Efforts to contact ASUS tech support have taken days to get a response. The response was not even close to understanding the problem, let alone providing a solution. I have had contact with three different people, each of which suggested a fix that was totally ineffective.
Summary: This model was made explicitly for Best Buy, refurbs are out there, as are used ones. Differences vs typical rog g74sx-xxxx -2GB of VRAM instead of 3GB -128 Bit instead of 256 -2D vs 3D Panel -1600x900 instead of 1920x1080 Panel -No Bluetooth -No Blu-ray -Smaller HDDs (500s instead of 750s)
Summary: So i am not one to write many reviews, But i felt i needed to write this one as a warning to people looking to buy one of these laptops. I ordered the laptop Jan 24th and within 5 hours of use it had one BSOD (i attribute that to uninstalling Mcfee antivirus) It had very little bloatware and all the features are in check. I started using this as a mobile desktop for school use. After about 20 days of use the track pad started acting up..
Summary: It's my first product review on Amazon. I have bought this laptop, as i have been checking it out for some time. I've thought that Asus has pulled it of. A magnificent laptop, with great specs and has almost no competition. WRONG! Pros: Fast Great looking Quiet Portable (if you are a man) Great keyboard Cons: By the time i am writing this review, a little over a month old G74SX, has two things broken by now: Touch-pad - was barely usable when it was "operational", now...
