Asus G74SX-A2 - Core i7-2630QM 2GHz - 17.3-inch TFT

CNET
21 October 2011
  • Summary: Asus has built a very nice sideline over the years with its gaming laptops, including the G74SX, which is a strong, if expensive, quad-core rig that works fine, but looks like it should cost less.
  • Pros: The Asus G74SX packs gamer-friendly components into an understated case, and includes a large 160GB SSD and plenty of RAM.
  • Cons: It's very expensive, while some parts still feel cheap, and higher-end boutique laptops beat it on performance.

Expert Review

ComputerShopper
27 September 2011
  • Conclusion: As with the MSI GT780R, the Asus G74Sx-A1 offers solid gaming performance at a price well below those of today's boutique machines. It won’t come close to the performance you’ll get from high-end, high-cost gaming rigs like the Malibal Nine X7200 and Maingear Titan 17, but it gets the job done for a fraction of the price.
  • Pros: Solid performance for price, 1080p display, Includes Blu-ray drive, Runs cool
  • Cons: Bulky chassis, Light on ports, Disappointing battery life

ASUS G74SX-A2 Review

LAPTOP Magazine
20 July 2011
  • Summary: With the G74SX-A2, ASUS has updated its desktop gaming notebook in all the right ways. While the changes to the chassis are subtle, the design feels fresh and is comfortable to use for long stretches. Inside, the SSD, quad-core CPU, and one of Nvidia's most powerful GPUs mean that gamers won't be wanting for performance, either.

Review Asus G74SX-3DE Gaming Notebook

Notebookcheck
3 July 2011
  • Summary: New strengths. The new Asus G74 was already seen at the Cebit this year in Hanover, even if as a mock-up. It also hardened initial suspicions regarding the use of the new Nvidia GTX 560M graphics solution. Now the time has finally arrived and the gaming machine is slowly turning up in the first shops. Read here, how the 3D gamer fares in comparison to its predecessor, G73, and the current competition.
  • Pros: High-end case impression, Pleasant and generous keyboard, Excellent display, 3D function, Good application/gaming performance, Very quiet during load, Always very low surface temperatures, Top display brightness, top image contrast, matt display surface, 120Hz - 3D optional. Gamer heart (eye), what more could you want?
  • Cons: Always very audible in idle mode, Touchpad's stubborn multi-touch function, Scanty interfaces supply, Throttling during extreme load, No GPU-Switch (Optimus), The predecessor's very quiet office noise. Any device can be loud and deliver performance, but maximum performance with minimum noise emissions was Asus G series' figurehead until now. That's too bad, even if the G74SX is still unrivaled quiet during load.

Asus G74SX 3D Gaming Notebook

Tech2
8 March 2011
  • Summary: For a price of Rs.1,24,990, the Asus G74SX offers good value when you consider what you’re getting. A similarly spec’d Alienware would cost you about 30K more, so keeping that in mind, Asus offers better value for money. But they’ve still not rectified some basic problems that were present with the earlier models. The main issue is the lack of a physical toggle switch for the 3D mode.
