Summary: I'm a professional software developer and Electrical Engineer. I purchased this box for its speed and because it has two huge exhaust ports on the back to get rid of the internally generated heat. My last machine failed early in my estimation, due to it not having sufficient ventilation. I don't run games on it and I immediately blew away the Windows operating system I was forced to purchase and installed Fedora Linux. Its a few years old now and still going strong.
Summary: I've had this laptop for a while and it has outperformed every other computer I have ever owned. Works great, runs cool, no problems. This has been running strong and fast since the day I opened the box - and I work it hard doing video editing almost every day.
Excerpt: Very fast laptop, designed to fit any gamer needs. Get ready to play your PC Games like never before with built-in bass and the one of the most powerful video cards you can get on a laptop, having a 2 GB video card! It comes with a hard drive of 1 TB which allows to put a lot of music, photos, and movies. Very easy to use. Up to 2 hours using it at the highest performance it can achieve. Excellent support and service from ASUS. 24/7 technical support.
If your thinking about buying one, stop thinking and buy it.

Summary: Everything and more that wat I expected in laptop, while not being a new Ultrabook or super thin, this machine feels like it could control the Deathstar. Powerful processor fully capable of running high end 3D Auto Cad program. Great feeling keyboard. All around excellent computer.
Summary: Love the specs of the ASUS laptop. First-time Asus buyer. My expert cousins recommended it. Screen is awesome, all excellent. The only things I could complain about is that Intel i7 is not all that great. And that the sound, unless I haven't figure out how use the "subwoofer" (located below), is not that great, loud. Oooh, and, yes, the battery doesn't last that long.
Summary: First worked fine, but one year later the video card simply stops working. I personally think that asus made a big design mistake with the Republic of Gamer series, because of the overheating of the video cards.
Summary: I know this is a long discontinued item, but I thought I'd write this report anyways. In part it's to commiserate with the others who have similar stories. In part it's to document Asus' terrible products. In part it's to vent spleen. I bought this computer (from Amazon) in Jan 2011 for my daughter to use in college. Anyone opting for this line of computer knows it's basically a totable desktop: full size keyboard, usable speakers, graphics, etc.
Summary: I bought this computer 18 months ago and was loving it at first. Issues I have had with this laptop are not ones I expected after such short time and since computer is my area of study I am pretty familiar with what a good computer should offer and I am definitely not comparing this to an Apple for example, but I still expected way more than I received.
Summary: I have owned this unit for 1.5 years and I have had to send it back to Asus 4 times. First the wireless just would work. It would not connect at all to my cisco router. After many hours on the phone with tech support it was determined that it need to come back to Asus for repair. 4 weeks later I get it back and it doesn't work at all right out of the box wont turn on wont respond at ALL, they send a new battery I demand an overnight shipment THEY ARGUE and force me to...
