Summary: Pros: Performance, including gaming, is superb. Cons: Very short battery life (~2.5 hrs max). Heavy and bulky (9 pounds with adapter)!!! Screen quality is mediocre; viewing angles are pretty bad. Sound quality is bad; max volume is very low. Under the high load left bottom part gets really hot; hot air is coming out of the heat sink on the left even under the regular load. Noisy and wobbling keys.
Summary: Just under two years ago, I purchased an ASUS G51. As sharp as it is, I've had trouble with it, with ASUS Customer Service, and with the two-year warranty. At the end of the first year, I called ASUS as the unit was overheating and powering down. The rep instructed me to go to the store and "Get a cooling pad and place it under the unit." Finally, a couple months (and a couple calls) later I told them something had to be done.
Summary: My story so far... When I dropped my Toshiba Satellite for the third time the motherboard finally cracked (I know, I know). As I was a Senior in College, I really needed a Laptop for class, but I am also a gamer so I wanted something with oomph. I looked at Toshiba, AlienWare, and Dell gaming computers online but had never heard of ASUS... Then one day I walk into a store and see this sexy white Laptop playing 1080P HD Video with a LED logo on the back.
Summary: I got this laptop knowing it wasn't going to be a super fast/gaming machine, but for what I needed it for and for 550 bucks I felt it was just perfect. Plays games just fine, and with the 4 gigs of ram it runs things smoothly. For what I need it for it has been perfect so far. The black lit keyboard and lights are sweet looking.
Summary: I bought one of these laptops from Tiger Direct about a year ago, refurbished, for college. Not only did I want a relatively powerful gaming computer, I needed a computer with high enough graphics and processing to preform rendering in my architecture major. This computer has not disappointed me yet. I've had no problem playing many recent games, even Crysis 2, and I've also been able to use it quite effectively as a work computer too.
Summary: I purchased mine from Best Buy in late 2009 for $1k. The Mobo died within 2 months. Had to send it to Asus and got a new PC within a couple of weeks. It was kind of a hassle but since then I have not had any major issues but I hear the the mobos on Asus is really a hit or miss. A lot of people are praising the GTX 260 GPU on this laptop. I guess for laptop gamers, it's really good but don't be fooled.
Summary: Laptop is really nice for the price. Plays at medium to high details every game out there as of 2011. I'm currently playing Duke Nukem Forever on it at max details, while laptop's HDMI output is hooked up to my HD projector while playing. Also, chip and HDD are both upgradable. You can also add 2nd hard drive, only problem is that caddy required for installation is on backorder on Asus' website for over a year now !?
Summary: I game a lot, and this is an excellent PC. Plays everything I can think of on ultra settings with nary a stutter. After reading the notebookcheck.com stats, I was expecting a lot less, but after six months I have yet to see anything even remotely approaching poor performance. Crysis, Crysis 2, Mafia 2, Two Worlds 2, Starcraft 2; everything runs smooth as butter. My next upgrade will definitely be an ASUS machine.
Probably The best laptop you can get for this price!
