1 year and going

Kevin K., Newegg
7 September 2011
  • Summary: This was the laptop I lost my laptop-virginity to. I am very grateful to ASUS for creating such a powerful piece of hardware. However, I wish ASUS could've made this laptop more... normal, primarily in terms of battery life.
  • Pros: Now, wonderful thing about this laptop is its processing power, graphics capabilities, and overall well-roundedness in terms of specifications. The graphics card runs wonderfully on the highest setting of power-demanding games such as Shogun 2: Total War. The multicore i7 allows for extreme multi...
  • Cons: Recently, starting in June 2011, the laptop has been acting oddly when it comes to particular programs, and will crash oftem if said programs are accessed, such as Steam. It's a well-known fact that this laptop, due to it powerful specifications, will become an oven upon your lap should you negle...

Mostly Satisfied

Joseph G., Newegg
7 April 2011
  • Summary: Don't buy this if you're someone who has to lug their laptop everywhere. It's more of desktop replacement. It runs most games great (Rift, Bad Company 2, etc) with little problem other than the heat but for some reason it just can't handle minecraft when I'm on multiplayer. This is very frustrating.
  • Pros: Fast, really fast. Can play the newest games on pretty high settings.
  • Cons: Gets really hot without a cooler underneath (GPU has hit 108C, all the other cores are consistently around 90-100 when playing a game) Minecraft causes it to overheat and turn off from time to time. I can't figure out why. Heavy. Dust and fingerprint magnet. Speakers are very quiet. Battery life ...

Good Gaming Laptop and Multitasking, Bad for Anything Else

Jedediah R., Newegg
4 February 2011
  • Summary: Overall a pretty good laptop. However, very flimsy and poorly compiled.
  • Pros: 1. Awesome specs for the price! 2. Quad-Core processor makes it easy to multitask. 3. Great gaming card! Can play the latest games on the highest settings. 4. Pretty quiet for a gaming laptop. 5. Back-lit keyboard is really neat, but not needed. 6. Standard 1-year accident protection from ASUS.
  • Cons: 1. Very flimsy. Very low in the durable category. 2. Fingerprint and dust magnet. (Both on the screen and on the glossy covering. 3. Battery Life: Only 1.5 hours at the most on battery-saving option. 4. Keyboard somewhat unreliable. Sometimes one or two keys don't work unless you press them reall...

Worth it

Brad R., Newegg
16 December 2010
  • Summary: i installed a WIN7 restore image from my old laptop on here and got BSOD 2 or 3 time before windows would actually boot. but when i put clean install on hav no problems now. ASUS ExpressGate is a really great feature.
  • Pros: Runs great, fast CPU, fast GPU, comes with driver disk with a few fairly usefull programs. Plays games well. super quick boot time when used with SSD
  • Cons: you have to take the almost entire bottom off just to get at the hard drive. runs hot( but thts expected with an i7) milddly bulky. display enclosure loose in some places

Fantastic low-footprint machine

Nicholas K., Newegg
14 December 2010
  • Summary: You want to use this machine on Performance power settings in your OS. Full numeric keypad is nice, though I don't have much call for it. BIOS is pretty spartan for an off the shelf system
  • Pros: Excellent hardware for the price, doesn't hamstring you on any components (I'm looking at YOU, Dell). Good size compared to other similarly sized machines, graphics capability is very good, full HD screen (at 15") will bug your eyes a bit but soon you'll wonder how you lived without it. Driver / ...
  • Cons: You will want to run this in performance mode - battery-saving modes result in an inadequate performance level - but then if you're considering this machine you probably (like me) care far more about performance than battery life. Backlit keyboard does not illuminate keys themselves, but backing ...

Pretty good laptop for the price

Marjorie F., Newegg
14 December 2010
  • Summary: I am overall happy with the laptop. Newegg was awesome with shipping. At first, I did not really care for the picture cover for the laptop, but I hardly notice it anymore. I recommend the laptop for anyone who wants portable gaming system.
  • Pros: The laptop is fast and easy to use. It is just slightly slower than Alienware that my friend got at the same time, but the price versus speed is excellent. Great for gaming. Runs WoW, Empire Total War, and others on high graphics without a hitch. (Ultra level graphics not recommended for this lap...
  • Cons: Power consumption is high, because of the energy needed. Gives off a lot of heat during heavy use. Carefully on what you place it on. I bought a cooler to put under it during games requiring heavy processor use. The cooler improved the performance and is well worth the buy with the laptop. AC/DC ...

Amazing Laptop, lots of maintenance...

NMoteval, Amazon
12 December 2010
  • Summary: This computer is fast, no doubt about it. All the heat is pushed out of a single side vent on the left side, so unless your running heavy load programs the computer stays pretty cool everywhere else.

Fantastic performance for the price!

Russell B., Newegg
28 November 2010
  • Summary: Overall this is a fantastic portable desktop but a terrible laptop. Depending on what your needs/wants are, you'll either love or hate this computer. Considering the price and the performance aspects, it's a great deal.
  • Pros: Blazing fast GPU and CPU, inexpensive, relatively light for its size, solid hardware combination (no ghosts in the machine), when turned to the lowest setting they back-lit keyboard is fantastic, solid keys on the keyboard, plenty of ports, numpad, beautiful screen (no dead/stuck pixels), sunken ...
  • Cons: Pumps out a lot of heat (which is GREAT since less heat inside keeps it from overheating, but this makes it far to hot to keep on your lap), default sound driver is very glitchy (must uninstall the sound device, run windows update, and let windows reinstall the best driver), very short battery li...
