Summary: The performance for this netbook is where it should be, although an upgrade to 2GB of RAM is definitely necessary. However, I must say that it is very flimsy. I have a tough case (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KEPZP0/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) but it has not been enough to prevent the screen from cracking. It's not like I put any extraneous pressure on the device. I put it in a carefully handled bag and took it with me on the go.
Summary: I bought it round... April/May and it was great. I could run gamse from the 90's and early 2000's like Fallout, Baldurs Gate and after a ram upgrade I could even run WOW. The netbook was perfect until during the summer, I noticed it began making a clicking sound when I opened and closed the top part/monitor. This eventually led to the top half breaking off eventually and ceased functioning.
Summary: I've had it for abt. a year now. Am very pleased with it. Do add the "ready boost" sd card to speed up the hard drive, it helps to have a class 10, 8 Gig card for max performance. It is small, snappy and has great graphics. Also add the extra ram to max it to 2 Gig. I'm very pleased with it.
Summary: After 4 months of regular use, the hinge detached and broke through the cheap plastic covering it. It would not open or close without a piece of hinge literally sticking through the plastic, and would close crooked. After sending it to ASUS under warranty at my cost of shipping, they tell me they will not fix it unless I pay them $100 since the warranty "does not cover damage to casing.
Summary: My wife has resisted using a computer, but this one is small and handy and just right for her to mess with. She even bragged about me buying a computer just for her. It's not the greatest, nor the fastest, nor the smartest but it is just right for her.
Summary: I am updating my review because of a battery failure and hassles with ASUS. The review below was written 1 week after I purchased this computer. In the last 10 months, it has been used only for business trips. On one occasion, files disappeared. I put that off to Windows, but it may have been a hard drive issue. This last month, the battery began to fail. Intermittently, the computer would not boot unless plugged in to the charger. Now the battery is completely dead.
Summary: I was looking forward to loving this computer. I read reviews before purchasing it and Asus usually makes great products. I might have received one that slipped through quality control or something. The computer itself runs great, it has a sleek design and was everything I was looking for in a netbook. The unibody design is less than ideal when it comes to fixing it because you have to disassemble the keyboard in order to access the hard drive.
Summary: Netbook seems very well built and solid. Keys are nice has good feel not cheap feeling like other netbooks. Track pad is alittle sensitive some times clicks on items that your not awanting to but have lerned to only have one finger close to track pad at time. Battery life so so. Front or top is aluminum but the rest is plastic brush look to make it look like aluminum.
