Alienware 18 review

APC
7 August 2014
  • Excerpt: Taking the concept of a desktop replacement to a new level, the 57.5mm thick aluminium and magnesium alloy clad Alienware 18 dwarfs other laptops. One of the great things about the Alienware line-up is being able to totally customise your order online, albeit at the loss of competition on price.

An Alienware 18, filled to the brim with upgrades

CNET
8 November 2013
  • Summary: There's a premium to be paid, but the massive Alienware 18 is a show-off-worthy desktop replacement that takes down even the newest PC games, and is just plain fun to use.
  • Pros: Dell's Alienware 18 is highly configurable, with dual video cards, tons of RAM and storage space, and an understated design that you won't hate.
  • Cons: The thick body raises the keyboard uncomfortably high, and getting primo parts costs a lot. Battery life is predictably poor, and this would have been a prime candidate for a better-than-HD screen.

Review Alienware 18 Notebook

Notebookcheck
28 September 2013
  • Summary: Superlatives. Alienware does not make any compromises with its latest 18-inch monster. You can not only select the best mobile quad-core processors in the configurator but also the fastest high-end graphics cards. The manufacturer also combines two of these models for a dual GPU system to increase the performance even further. Continue reading to find out whether the high price is justified.
  • Pros: Good upgradeability and maintainability, Bright display with good viewing angles, Sophisticated port layout, Excellent build quality, Individual configuration, Large palm rest, Excellent performance, High-quality materials, Good input devices, Decent sound quality, Alienware meets the high-end requirements in most of the categories.
  • Cons: Bulky and extremely heavy case, CPU & GPU throttling under maximum load, Turbo Boost potential cannot be used, Mediocre WLAN performance, High energy consumption, Bulky PSU, Fixed battery, Glossy display, Limited mobility, A better WLAN module, a matte display and no throttling under extreme conditions

  • Conclusion: As a bonus, Alienware offers configurations to fit, well, any budget as long as it's a big one (though we'd skip the quad-SSD RAID array, since it deprives you of an optical drive). Yes, the 18 is huge and heavy, but there's an awful lot of firepower packed into this behemoth, more than enough to blow the competition out of the water and earn it our Editors' Choice for cost-no-object gaming notebooks.
  • Pros: Killer SLI graphics performance, Lights galore, Beautiful display, High-end components
  • Cons: Expensive, Heavy, Brief battery life

Alienware 18 Review

LAPTOP Magazine
11 June 2013
  • Summary: For the same price as the $4,399 Alienware 18, you could buy 63 Amazon Kindles, 22 Google Nexus 7s or a brand-new Honda CBR250R motorcycle, and still have money left over. Or, you could buy the most powerful gaming rig we've yet seen, with dual Nvidia cards, a quad-core Intel 4th-generation processor and a blazing 512GB SSD. And that's on top of the massive, gorgeous chassis and display, and wicked lighting effects.

Тест и обзор: Alienware 18 - экстремальный...

hardwareluxx.ru
20 November 2013

Completa Análise do Portátil Alienware 18

Notebookcheck
19 October 2013
