Disposable Laptop

notyep, Amazon
13 October 2014
  • Summary: We bought the Acer Aspire V5 for our son to use at school last year. 3 weeks ago, the hard disk crashed. We installed a new disk, then discovered Acer does not have a Win 8 download. We got a Win 8 install on a USB drive, only to find the Microsoft product key is on the hard disk that crashed.

Not good value

Sacha V, Amazon
13 March 2014
  • Summary: I purchased this to use solely as a word processor. I cleared out all the bloatware and installed MS Word 2013. The 1GHz processor is impossibly slow and couldn't even handle a single document. As soon as I loaded a 50k word document, it crashed. Re-boot, opened Word, opened document, crash.

This may be the last Accer I buy

Driver Bob, Staples
2 January 2014
  • Excerpt: They need to have good tech support and don't. Having trouble setting up Accer ID. On-line support basically sucks. Try to get through to the call center is hard to do, especially for someone working during the day.
  • Pros: Quality Construction
  • Cons: Difficult To Set Up, Hard To Use

Slower than my Acer Aspire netbook

Low-cost reviewer, Staples
9 December 2013
  • Excerpt: This laptop contains the vastly under-powered AMD A4 1250 processor. It is only dual core, and not up to snuff. I tried all sorts of tweaks to make it run faster. I deleted McAfee antivirus and eliminated all the factory installed bloatware. This allowed me to check email and surf the web.
  • Pros: Good Value
  • Cons: Bloatware Slows It Down, Slow Processor

Hate, I mean HATE Win 8

Advrswife, Staples
6 December 2013
  • Excerpt: I puchased this little computer because my old Acer was big and heavy. At the time that was exactly what I was looking for on a laptop but I've been traveling often recently and decided to purchase something lighter but with good screen clarity.
  • Pros: Bright, Durable, Good Value, Professional Weight, Sharp Tones & Colors
