Summary: Where do I even begin...I have never reviewed anything on Amazon, but I hate this computer so much that I broke that streak so I could come here and bash it. First - I thought the color looked a little washed out, so I thought I would calibrate the display. HUGE mistake. All I ended up doing was tweaking the saturation ever so slightly...and it completely broke my touchscreen. The drivers are just gone.
Summary: I got a gray screen. Took it into shop and have just been told it's a motherboard problem and not worth the price of fixing. 10 1/2 months old. Not happy. Not dropped, nothing spilled on it, not left in hot places. Up until the gray screen, I liked everything except the mouse placement seemed a little off.
Summary: I bought this unit refurbished a little over 3 months ago. Seemed like a great value until the warranty period expired. I first started having connectivity issues, now it won't even power on. The Acer support site says a power reset may solve the problem, but the instructions state to remove the battery. Alas, the battery is not removable. No other support is offered because it is out of warranty! I'm now left to scour the internets for possible DIY fixes.
Laptop broke after 1 month - Acer support terrible
10 May 2013
Summary: After 1 month of light use of this laptop, the computer crashed. I had the one year Acer warranty and called them to get help, but they argued that the issue was due to a windows 8 software problem and could not help me. They wanted to charge me money to send a recovery CD to fix the issue. Furthermore, they couldn't help me with recovering files.
Summary: Bought two Acer Timeline M5 laptops a month ago. Computer number one died with a short circuit on the motherboard after 3 weeks use. Computer smoked briefly and terrible odor. After an hour and 30 minutes on hold with Acer warranty, given a return number. Computer back in use within 10 days. Acer refuses to tell us a) what burned and b) what chemicals we were exposed to.
Summary: This product was marked as new. When it arrived it was already used and already had a strangers name assigned as the computer/username. This is unacceptable. I only gave 1 star because there wasn't a zero star option.
Summary: Wifi was dead on arrival - which pretty much defeats the purpose of a portable machine. On several different networks, even when within five feet of the router, the wifi would cycle on and off - saying it was connected, then not, then connected, etc. (Looking at the reviews after the purchase, this seems to be a pattern with the Acer TimelineU series. I wish I'd seen that before ordering.
