Performs well until you need OpenGL

Anonymous, Newegg
8 May 2012
  • Summary: It doesn't play well with memory hungry applications that need OpenGL (e.g. Photoshop and Premiere CS 5). The issue is caused by OpenGL running on the integrated card and not the ATI card even when setting this applications to run on the High Performance card in Catalyst Control Center.
  • Pros: Solid performance on most applications, ample features
  • Cons: Switchable Graphics is a nightmare if you need the later versions of Photoshop or Premiere. I knocked off two eggs for lack of a BIOS update and poor support.

Switchable GFX

Thomas E., Newegg
21 March 2012
  • Summary: Great laptop for entertainment yet, but think twice before getting it with the "Switchable graphics." -2eggs 1 for shipping wait(that normally doesn't happen) and 1 for the gfx problem. **I would like to see someone figure out this problem with games and the graphics.
  • Pros: Great big screen and nice processor.
  • Cons: HELP! Switchable gfx are killer(in a death way). You need to choose the .exe's to run the gfx card. I figured this wouldn't of been a big deal to have. Wrong. This does not work with Steam games such as counterstrike source very well. You need to set all your games, and the over lay of steam(shif...

Good WIndows notebook

Matthew F., Newegg
17 December 2011
  • Summary: I prefer Linux over Windows but recently got into trading requiring multiple monitor setup. Bought an Asus i7 with Nvdia GTX 560 and with 3 usb/dvi adapters it has its 1080 display + 4 24" like one long extended display. Could not get this PC to do that.
  • Pros: Keyboard layout, just like my previous Gateway NV70xx i5 this replaced, same size and battery too as Gateway but faster. Doesn't get hot. Runs Secondlife in high detail, max draw distance with very little slowness when turning. It ran in Ultimate settings also, with draw distance at 360 SL seemed...
  • Cons: Linux ati graphics driver support, as of now current hardware is unsupported but does work to an extent. Could not get multiple monitors working in extended setting in linux with nor without proprietary ati drivers. ATI drivers in general suck IMHO. I researched notebook graphics cards before pur...

Great potential, but flawed

L "the only one", Amazon
8 December 2011
  • Summary: All in all, this package includes great hardware at a good price. Alas, there is a fundamental flaw that makes this notebook less than appealing: Switchable Graphics It starts with a good intention: Use the integrated graphics adapter (Intel HD 3000) for tasks that do not require a powerful GPU and...

Computer is great. Service was horrible.

Julia M., Newegg
21 October 2011
  • Summary: Not only did I get rush processing which shouldn't take 3 DAYS out of the 1-2 business days to process and ship my order; (What a joke), but the UPS 2nd day air, which USUALLY means that it'll get to you on the SECOND DAY, is scheduled to get here 6 days later. Makes no sense.
  • Pros: Computer is great, fast, plays all the games I have on med+ settings with 60+ fps. Keyboard feels nice. Nice large screen. (Makes the battery life suffer a little bit but that's to be expected.)
  • Cons: Can't really think of any right now. Read in other thought for why it's a 3 egg rating.

Graphics IS NOT switchable (yet I suppose as of 9/29/2011)

Mark Y., Newegg
29 September 2011
  • Summary: (continuing my Cons rant) I call back Acer telling them that newegg does not provide drivers and then they tell me to call AMD for a driver *triple facepalm I call AMD and they tell me that I have to call back Acer for a driver because AMD does not have drivers for the ATI Radeon 6650M After...
  • Pros: Fast second generation i7 core 6 GBs of RAM which I upgraded to 16 while I had the laptop (there are 4 RAM slots) Has an extra HD slot but would need a different cover on the bottom to make it fit 17" laptop big screen Looks sleek Has an Intel HD Family onboard graphics card which is good for low...
  • Cons: There is NO WAY to switch to the ATI Radeon graphics card (yes people have said you could but they don't know shiat) Here is what I went through: Tried reinstalling the driver from Acer's website but it doesn't work I tried modding the driver to get it to work but it doesn't work I tried updating...

  • Pros: pretty fast, nice and light but...
  • Cons: it was getting really hot when i was using high graphics, acer response was - it is unusual for it to get that hot, send it to us for repairs. I of cause exchanged/bought better quality laptop Acer Aspire AS7750G-9657 Intel Core i7 and i love it. #2 the laptop monitor is extremely cheap.

NOT PERFECT.

Mike J., Newegg
31 August 2011
  • Summary: Note sure if I would buy from Acer again. But Hey, at least they aren't outsourcing USA Jobs.
  • Pros: Nice big screen with web cam. Thin and doesn't have onboard Video Problems (so far) because of its compactness. Solid condition, back cover doesn't scratch easily. Not really bad but could be better. Tech support doesn't sound to be in India or Pakistan.
  • Cons: *Hard Drive goes click click click and grind like a record player, but still managed to work. They replaced the hard drive and the replacing hard drive buzzes like a cell phone. *Keyboard Keys have visible ware with average use after a few months AND the caps lock key does not light up, but inste...

No USB 3.0!

Troy D., Newegg
16 August 2011
  • Summary: My biggest gripe is that both Newegg, and Acer advertise this model as having USB 3.0, and mine does not have it. I have 3 USB ports none of them have the blue marking. I thought maybe they went with black, but I tested them all and averaged 30mbs with a 500mb file.
  • Pros: Image quality Gaming performance Noise level low heat
  • Cons: Keyboard flexes a little, not a major issue. No USB 3.0 as advertised!
