Summary: Do yourself a favor and don't buy this. Mine is about 2.5 years old now and I've had so many issues with it. The keys are raised, so everything, and I do mean everything gets stuck underneath them. It overheats and shuts off constantly, and the newest issue is blue screens. Now, a laptop which just cost me 600 dollars two years ago is done and over with. The cost to fix it is going to cost as much as buying a new one altogether. That's rediculous.
Summary: I purchased this laptop, and it worked great for about a month. After a month the screen would not work. Contacted the seller and was told that I was past the 30 day return policy. I told them I simply wanted to return it for repair or replacement as it only worked for a bit over a month. Have not head back from the seller and have been chasing this for over 3 weeks. After reading the reviews it looks like this seller has been lousy with any kind of support.
Summary: I bought this computer as a present for a friend who had been using a desktop for more than 8 years now and needed a new computer. All he usues it for is Word for homework and youtube at most. First few days this computer was awesome. Then 3rd day while typing a paper it shuts off as if the power got unplugged. It would not turn on and not even reach safemode. Took it to geek squad and who recommended us sending it back to Acer. Acer did not offer to pay for shipping.
Summary: Ever since we got this laptop we had problems with it - and they never stopped!!!. Very LOW QUALITY product that I couln't recommend even to an enemy. First speakers stopped working, no sounds were coming at all. We sent it back to Acer because it was on warranty, it came back and the speakers no longer made screeching sounds, but the microphone didn't work anymore. Again we send it for repairs, after hours of customer support.
Summary: I bought this laptop in March of 2011. It seemed to have everything I wanted along with a two year extended warranty. This morning Windows had a message that the hard drive was bad. I backed it up and then shut down, never to be able boot again. When I called Acer support (in Pakistan?) they said that the only option is to send it to them and they will replace or repair the hard drive within several weeks.
I would only recommend this to someone who had killed my dog or slept with my wife...

Summary: This is my current ticket to Acer Support: My Acer Aspire3 5742-6838 has a fan (next to the power cord) that runs every 30 seconds or so. I bought this laptop to do hard drive recording, but when the fan comes on it temporarily accesses the registry and uses such a large percentage of the CPU that it constantly interrupts other programs and makes it nearly useless, except for maybe word processing and mail and even hesitates on that.
Summary: Laptop has not consistently performed since purchased. Have had to send product in for warranty work four times in five months at our own expense for the same problem. Poor customer service and support. Acer not willing to back product.

Summary: I accuse Acer of deliberate deception in squirming out of responsibilities as a manufacturer. I bought this model laptop November 2010. It is August 2011, well within the first year of warranty. The hard drive developed bad sectors, verified using DOS CHKDSK, meaning there is a physical defect with the hard drive. My laptop was not dropped, it was not abused, it suffered no power surge through the UPS I plug it into.
Summary: I'm a law student and needed a new laptop for school at not a high price (I bought it for $500). Worked great for 3 weeks, then refused to load windows or work in any way (it would turn on, but not actually get into the start-up). I have no problem with tech support from India, but these specific people (I was cycled through 3 different people) were incompetent, rude, and wanted to charge me $100 to retrieve any data from my computer (my fault for not backing everything...
