Summary: I bought an Acer laptop about 4 years ago. I didn't write a review then because it didn't cross my mind to do so. However, now that is beginning to show signs of wear and tear, and will soon need to be replaced, I thought I would share my experience with it. Over the past 4 years I have used it almost daily. I am a writer and my laptop is in use for up to 6 hours a day. When I am not writing, I am using it for downloading and editing my photos.
Summary: I bought one of these new in 2009, and am typing on it right now. I love this machine and am currently looking for another one for when this one does start to have problems. The thing with this model is that it was released with 2 major variants. the single core TF-20 1.6ghz and the dual core TK-42 1.6ghz. the single core one is crap stock, but you can buy the best processor for the socket for about $35 bucks now. these things were $450 or so new in 2009.
Summary: Hardware is great, really small but deilevers a punch. However the mouse pad is exceedingly annoying. I carry my laptop everywhere and don't use a mouse, so this is aggravating. The mouse pad is maybe 1.5 inches by 4 inches and insensitive to touch. Don't expect much noise out of the speakers either.
Summary: I actually won this laptop in raffle, but for what the price is on Amazon, it's well worth it. You can't expect a power house of a computer under $500 even from Acer. The graphics card is the ATI Radeon HD 3200, and it's an onboard shared memory card. Usually those cards are "pieces of crap" but I was surprised with what I could do with it. But don't think you will be maxing out many games.
Summary: I bought this laptop used for my son for a Christmas present. His sister was given a 5515 last year and I wanted somethign comparible. It is a little timex...it just keeps going and going. Lightning fast internet. Windows 7. I can be happier with its performance. I only wish it had a timer that would make it power down at bedtime. LOL!
Summary: I'm not even sure why they call this a laptop because with less than a 1 hour battery life it certainly isn't portable by any means. Also if you have it on standby and not plugged in it will be completely dead by the time you go back to it, even if it was fully charged when you closed the top. The ac adapter pretty much just falls out with any little motion.
Summary: (This review is written by Sherrie's husband) Bought acer laptop new in may 2010, crashed 6 weeks later. Sent to their repair facility at shipping and packing cost of $38. Got back week and a half later, used 3 days, crashed again. Sent back to Acer at their cost. Came back 3 days later, said was checked and it was working properly(?!?). Used 2 days, again crashed, keeps shutting down with blue screen "page fault" and "beginning memory dump", IE kept shutting off also.
Summary: The price is the key. Haven't found a better value anywhere. I received excellent customer service. And it todays times, when you need to buy a new lap top every two years, just to keep up, it is the best choice. This is my second Acer and I am very satisfied, I switched from HP and not going back.
Summary: This is the very best deal on laptops today. The AMD Hyper Transport technology (no FSB bottleneck) coupled with a large memory footprint (4GB) and a good size HDD makes this laptop stand way above the rest. The price point is so compelling that I think I may buy another one just to have as a spare. The only thing I wish Acer had incorporated into this package was the ability to add a docking station as an accessory.
