Excerpt: I bought the 8943G as my main computer, deciding not to go for a desktop due to the high spec of this laptop and the fact that I would need to work from a number of different locations. I use some fairly processor-heavy applications like graphics and development tools, so my only option was a high-spec machine. I was surprised to see Acer packing so much power in their Aspire range and shopped around for a good price after reading some good reviews.

Excerpt: I own acer 8943g, i5. The product can be named as portable computer rather than lap top as you can''t keep it in your lap, its really heavy. you must have avery spacious table to keep this one. not very convienience to carry around. the 5.1 dolby channel seems to be ok campare to acer''s poor history. It can produce a reasonable sound.but not so perfect.
Summary: I bought the machine based on its huge spec - 16gb memory, 18.4in screen, 1920x display - so should be a top notch machine for development, games, movies. In practice, it has been a disappointment, constantly reminding me it's not quite working properly. Most irritating niggle is that keyboard saves space on left shift key, and has to be hit firmly and just so, so touch typing while developing becomes a chore.
Summary: I bought this laptop from Amazon roughly 1 year ago. The hardware it contains is impressive, albeit the cpu is a slow one ~1.6Ghz As others here have mentioned the major problems are :- 1) Eco-hard discs that cause regular 1-2 second freezes in pretty much every piece of software you might want to run. This may not mean a lot for office style programs, but for online gaming its useless.
Excerpt: I have owned eight laptops in my lifetime and I can honestly say the the Acer Aspire 8943G is the best one I have ever owned. My current profession is that of a games designer and programmer. My skills are relied on to make games seem realistic and entertaining. As you can imagine I need a very high performance PC/laptop for the job and that's just what the 8943G is. The Intel Core i7 720QM boots up my computer in about 8 - 9 seconds flat.
Pros: Stylish, powerful and affordable . It works like a charm .
Cons: For me, none . But for some the portability may be an issue (Keep in mind this is a media laptop)
Summary: Definitely the worst computer I have ever had. Slow processor - 1.6 Ghz at the standard speed - slow hard discs - 5400 rpm - the wifi connexion stops working at least once a day. Even though I bought the version with 16 GB RAM I spend half of my life waiting for this machine to decide what it wants to do. If you want an HD screen to watch BlueRay DVDs this is a good machine with excellent sound. But don't try installing Microsoft Word on it.
Summary: it weighs 4.6kg but its a massive laptop wot did you expect. The only Laptops that match this one are easily £2000 + (customized dell xps, Alienware) I'm waiting for mine to be delivered next week It has the i7 processor 8gb Memory 1TB hard drive 18.4"! 1080p screen Blu ray writer tv tuner the media centre remote control youre getting Directx 11 graphics from the hd 5850 Crysis will run at 25 FPS easy (smooth) at maxed settings.
Pros: nearly everything
Cons: no USB 3.0 Hard drives run at 5200rpm would have preffered 7200rpm, they shud have put GDDR5 memory in the Graphics card
Excerpt: It's actually quite funny, when most people go looking for a quality laptop at a good price, they rarely think Acer. I really don't know why this is, honestly. High end graphics, super quick processor and RAM and huge hard disk, it comes with a great operating system and is ready to play any of the high end games or use any graphics production software. Where it does let you down, though, is the weight.
Summary: After returning HP, Dell, Toshiba, I'm happy with this great laptop, it's very robust, fast and the screen resolution is magnificent. Fan is not so noisy as the Dell and Toshiba and touchpad is easy to click, not as the HP. Speaker are great, wireless and bluetooth working fast, Blue ray can write quickly DVD and CD. i7+4GB ram are a great combo delivering a very fast machine.
Summary: I agree that Acer seem to have taken cheaper cuts with this computer (8943G, i7-720QM, 1.6 GHz. 4Gb DDR3, 640 Gb HDD 5400 rpm ). For starters the main processor, for the price, could have been an i7-740QM (1.73 GHz)and the hard drives could have been 7200rpm My main gripe is that i am a musician and I wanted to use this computer for recording.
