Summary: I've had this laptop for nearly 2 years now, not a piece of machinary but there is one big problem: overheating! It takes minutes for it to start overheating, particularly when watching a video or listening to music. The only way it seems to stay cool is by using a USB fan to cool down. Still its served me well and I'm still using it!
Summary: Bought this laptop in May 2009 & have had nothing but problems from the start. Now, lwss than 2 years latter it has packed up completely. Have done some research on the internet & it appears that it is a fairly common problem with Acer's. I wish I had done this before buying. I have had to dig out my old Dell laptop, which although it's slow, still works.
Summary: First off great spec for a great price, problems with HD playback and overheating after a couple of months and issues with the HDMI output, seemed to struggle. Main issue after only a year the thing began to first of all, not charge, only working when plugged in, then after a while it began not booting at all with the power light flashing intermittently.
Summary: I bought this laptop June 2009 and the motherboard overheated June 2010 (only one year!) even though I kept it well ventilated. Luckily it was just still just inside the warranty period so Acer replaced the motherboard though it took them about a month! When I got it back, a couple of weeks later it overheated again and this time since I was outside the warranty period Acer tried to charge me £160-ish even though I was told it was under a 3 months warranty from date of...
Excerpt: "...is a common fault with acer laptops but no recall has been done to rectify this. I did contact Acer to tell them about my experience but they were not very helpful, just saying that i need to send the laptop to them with a payment of £55 just for postage and for them to test it, then they will quote me a price for fixing it. Comet were not very helpful either saying that after the 12 months they have no obligation to help me. Really dissapointed ...
Pros: Good speed, nice looking, great peice of kit
Summary: After having this laptop for 3 months I felt there are a couple of things you should know. Its quick enough for me but then I am not a gamer. The screen is bright, in fact its excellent. Vista works ok...I dont see what all the trouble is about to be honest. The webcam is brilliant; the best I have used so far. The fingerprint reader is just a novelty. It works most of the time but you may as well just type in a password as its far easier.
Summary: The product itself seems perfectly fine (I can't go into detail as I haven't had it for long enough to tell). However be warned this laptop ships with a lot of junk programs which will not help its performance (as mentioned in a previous review) and reinstalling the provided windows vista which is the only one the product key will work for will not remove it. I was researching the ways I could reinstall vista to no avail.
Summary: Looks good straight out of the box but just didn't work!(would boot into Windows) - phoned Acer & they said there was a fault which they would repair - no chance of a replacement? This is, of course, illegal as they HAVE to replace after less than a day (Distance selling reg & Sale of goods act). Thank goodness for Amazon - printed their pre-paid label, arranged collection & got a refund. Shame though that they couldn't replace in less than one to three months!
