Doesn't have the overall great performance I expected
9 September 2012
Excerpt: When I first saw this computer on display at the store, I instantly fell in love. It had all the components I was looking for: built-in webcam, CD/DVD burner, thin, sleek design, 8+ hours of battery power, up-to-date cooling technology, lots of memory. When I finally received my computer, though, my bubble burst. The processing speed is pretty fast, but sometimes if I run a few programs at a time, my computer freezes on me.
3.5 Stars: Great battery life, thin. Sacrifices performance heavily.

Summary: I wanted a thin, light laptop with good battery life. This Acer definitely has all of those things. It's "cool" looking, thin, and the battery life really puts out. I don't get 8 hours, but even 5 hours is pretty good. If you want that kind of battery life, you sacrifice performance. First off, on battery mode, you'll want the battery setting on "balanced" or "power saver"-- which cuts the processor speed down.
Summary: This is the first laptop I've ever owned and I received it as a gift from my brother. It's come in handy and is very convenient to use. I have encountered a few issues with the laptop though. I have found that the keys of the laptop can sometimes pop off. They look sleek but aren't secured well enough. The location of the ports are also an issue. With the thin design of the laptop many of the ports are poorly placed and squeezed tightly together.
Summary: pros: thin, light, wide screen, cheap, works con: the touch pad is flaky and although this comes with a 64-bit processor, acer only included a 32-bit windows version. Windows Vista on this laptop is just almost unusable. For a long time, this laptop was collecting dust in the back of the closet in favor of other more expensive laptops until I decided to install Ubuntu 10.x Netbook Remix.
Summary: Computer looks beautiful. Everyone will envy you just by the sleekness. Battery life, sucks. Get 8-9-11 hrs for the first two weeks, after that if you're getting 5 hrs, you are lucky. Everything else is lovely. Problem is I brought this for the long battery life. Wish I had gotten an HP for fast performance as the processor is extremely slow.
Summary: I like it but had problems setting it up. It gave the blue scrren of death on me a few times befor it got it to wrok right. It has been ok after getting updates for Windows 7. Unlike what a another person wrote it comes with dvd/cd burning software and a nice selection of pre-installed software. But if the blue screen happens again I will return it for a replacement.
Summary: When I first got this product in the mail, it was not a good experience. When I plugged it up I got nothing on the screen. I called technical support and they couldn't help me, so I had to send it to TX for repair. (I live in MI) This is not something that you want to do when you have just spent over $500. However I didn't have to pay for shipping and the waiting period wasn't too bad, (10 days) plus you could track your package.
Why Windows, Why All the Bloatware, and Why is the 14-Inch $100 More?

Summary: Why does the 14-inch screen version Acer Aspire Timeline AS4810TZ-4696 14-Inch Laptop - 8+ Hours Battery Life cost $100 MORE? Why must they/we give Microsoft its customary pound of flesh for its usual awful operating system, and why does this box apparently come all loaded down with extraneous bloatware nobody wants? It seems like such a nobrainer to offer a version of this machine running Ubuntu, preloaded with Firefox, Open Office and Gimp (for example).
Summary: The computer specs looked to be excellent. It's super thin and light with an amazingly long battery life, but the first one I received kept freezing up. After speaking with Acer I had to disable every start up item in order to prevent it from freezing, but then still continued to have problems. Luckily J&R is amazing about getting it exchanged. Hopefully the second one will not have any problems!
Summary: I try to return the product a couple time online and talk to Amazon agent for an authorization number to send it back. They sey they will email me for the authorization number. It never came. It had passed the return date for me to retur. Amazon sell it but I want to return it, they look away. I will not buy product from Amazon again.
