Excerpt: I was curious when I saw that lock, despite some reviews not totally in its favor this lock is just ok, obviously you need to worry about not losing the keys, but if this is no issue to you, this works just fine in older Dell Lattitude d830.
Summary: Shopping around a little, I found this the best cost and quality balance. I needed it to use in the library. Very secure, my only complaint is the the connection to the laptop is sometimes hard to sqeeze shut and lock but that might just be my laptop. Would recommend to anyone, it comes with a case which is the perfect size.
Summary: When I attached the locking device to my netbook (an Asus Eee PC 1001PX) I found that its hooks were big enough that they made the side seam on the computer pop open when I closed the device. The resulting gap was tiny, but the case was opening with an audible click every time I went to attach the padlock. It wasn't worth my time to go back to the store where I bought it, so I spent a few minutes with a file and fixed the problem, but that shouldn't have been necessary.
Summary: I got two of these, and they are awesome. Way better than those cheap combination locks. This one has a real padlock that uses a key, which you could replace with any similar sized padlock if you wanted. The real value is the little thing that you attach to the laptop. They also give you a nice long cable to wrap around something secure.
