Magnet too weak
Pedram K, Apple Store
29 January 2014
Summary: The magnet is simply too weak. I believe all other comments point out the same problem. This is simply unacceptable - if anyone from the Apple engineering team is actually reading this comment, please consider redesigning the adapter and while you're at it, make it cheaper? Very thanks.
Summary: Time to stop dancing around the issue and just call this charger what it is--defective. I The magnet is so weak that during a normal 3 hour session using my MacBook Pro Retina it detaches several times, a problem I never experienced with the charger that attached flush to my previous MacBook. Apple needs to recall this component immediately and replace with one that doesn't have inherent design problems.
Summary: The massive number of bad reviews demonstrates that Apple screwed up with this product. I'm surprised they haven't addressed the problem yet. The previous version wasn't perfect but it worked much better than this one. If you are shopping for a replacement, consider getting a v1 MagSafe adapter and the $10 adapter. It's a better alternative.
Summary: As stated above, it falls out. Constantly. Don't let the cable get even slightly tangled either. Any inevitable kink will surely sever any charging ability whatsoever. Never fear though, they are only $80.00 to replace.
Summary: This is my third time replacing the power adapter. I have wasted hundreds of dollars on this awful cord. I love my mac, but I will never buy another one because of this problem. This should be embarrassing for Apple.
Summary: I am on my THIRD power adapter in FOUR years and about to buy a FOURTH! So disappointed with Apple over this design! I like the MagSafe aspect, but the cable and shielding are so, so weak they all wear out at the same point, right at the block and right at the MagSafe connector. I've had two inline connectors and one right-angle connector and they all three have failed or are failing. I'm going to buy another right-angle connector next time. Please Apple, fix this issue.
Summary: Yes, I know about the tear issue on the last version of MagSafe, but it was incredible good. Now, I'll quote David Pogue from NY Times "The magnet is too weak. It’s so weak, it keeps falling out. It falls out if you brush it. It falls out if you tip the laptop slightly. It falls out if you look at it funny." This means, if you are in your bed, with your laptop, the power cord will fall out.
