Great KVM for the money

Nicolas K., Newegg
18 June 2012
  • Summary: I got this on sale for 60 bucks, and at that price for a KVM with DVI out...you can't really beat it.
  • Pros: DVI out and USB KVM for only 60 bucks. Worked well straight out of the box (make sure you install drivers on each computer first, otherwise it won't switch). Hotkeys were a little clunky for switching - but work most the time (I noticed some interference if I had input director running). Also the...
  • Cons: Wish it had all incoming and outgoing ports on the back or side (as is, the monitor/usb-in ports are on the front, which makes it a bit of an eye sore if you have the switch sitting on your desk - you have cables coming out both the front and back). I'd put it under my desk but I like having acce...

Horrid KVM Switch

Michael B., Newegg
25 April 2012
  • Summary: Would not buy it or any product made by this company again.
  • Pros: You get everything you need to the drive up, all cables etc.
  • Cons: Does not work. Destroyed connected input devices. This device when installed correctly would not bring up one of the computers it was hooked to and after a few hours of tinkering i finally got both up and running. A short time later the switch got very hot, my monitor (Scepter 23") started to fla...

Skip this -- might as well burn your money

Nathan A., Newegg
2 September 2011
  • Summary: considering that the product was flat-out defective and that it will cost me nearly 30% of the original cost just to return it, I'd recommend you avoid even starting down this path.
  • Pros: hot-key available; works well, while it works
  • Cons: after two weeks, it just quit on me -- could exchange it, but really don't want the potential hassle of going through this another time (and clearly I'm not the only one). Also, the cables stick out both front and back, so there's no good way to position this so you can access the switch without ...

User Review

Randy L., Newegg
15 June 2011
  • Summary: We have 11 of these in our office (Engineering/CAD) as we all have two workstations and one monitor. Starting using them about a year ago and have had no issues. Will not hesitate to purchase more.
  • Pros: Inexpensive, reliable and easy to use.
  • Cons: Included DVI cable doesn't work with all Samsung monitors - cable has analog pins (DVI-I) and some Samsung LCD monitors do not have them (DVI-D). So you may need to use an adapter or another cable.

Hotkey discovery - NumLock!

Laurence G., Newegg
29 October 2010
  • Pros: In my previous post I stated that the Hot-Key, ScrLk+ScrLk, as stated in the manual, did not work. Two months later, by complete mistake, I discovered that NumLock+NumLock works perfectly to switch between Windows <> Ubuntu Linux using this Microsoft wireless keyboard. Was the manual wrong? Does ...
  • Cons: Never did get a reply to my email requesting help from LinksKey.

Windows OK. Linux not so much. No response from vendor

Laurence G., Newegg
11 September 2010
  • Summary: Wanted a KVM switch that would connect my USB wireless Microsoft Mouse/Keyboard to either a Windows 7 PC or a Ubuntu linux box. This works mostly... with the exception of manually switching back from Ubuntu to Windows. For the most part, I got what I thought I was buying.
  • Pros: Cheaper than others similar USB/DVI solutions. Works with a Microsoft USB wireless mouse/keyboard. Comes with all necessary cables. No problem with booting either computer nor when switching to a computer that's asleep. Hotkey works well from Windows to Ubuntu - would probably be perfect between ...
  • Cons: Hotkey does not work from Ubuntu linux back to Windows - despite assurances in the (poorly written) manual. I must reach over to the box and press the transfer button. Email to Linkskey Tech Support requesting Ubuntu hotkey information has never been answered. DVI Cables are massive thick wires t...

Repsonce to Errors

Erik Z., Newegg
4 June 2010
  • Summary: To get this to work, you have to turn UAC (User Account Control) off in the user account section of your control panel. This provided me with a solution that works at least...
  • Pros: Works great, after tweaks...
  • Cons: Win7/Vista doesnt like the refresh rate on this item.

  • Summary: The LED light is very bright ... well, it was two years ago. I eventually got use to it. Think of it as a night-light of some sorts if you use your computer in your bedroom. During the last three months of it's life, however, I did mount this KVM on the wall using those sticky mounting pads that you...
  • Pros: + Switches between computers effortlessly ... well, at the time when it worked, it did. + KVM Software works on both Mac and Windows. Mac Mini is running Mac OS X Leopard while the PC was running Windows Vista (but now running Windows 7).
  • Cons: + Renders itself useless almost 2 years of use-- shorter life than expected. I bought this around April 2008. + However, it didn't just die flat-out. It was more gradual. First, one of the USB connectors died out, probably do to general wear-n-tear (went through four or five mice during it's life...

Not Windows 7 friendly

Jason H., Newegg
7 January 2010
  • Summary: If all you need is a KM switch instead of a KVM then this will work for you.
  • Pros: Small, looks nice, and comes with cables. Works with the G15 keyboard.
  • Cons: I just spent the last 2 weeks trying to find away to make this switch work and was unsuccessful. The best I can come up with is that it doesn't like the way Windows 7 detects monitors or something to do with the Nvidia driver. The switch works fine when I boot my computer and it works fine when I...
