2nd review (Id io t user edition)

Gregory B., Newegg
20 July 2015
  • Summary: My previous review was incorrect because of id io t user (which would be me). The 1st unit I purchased may have been somewhat defective but the replacement unit was probably fine. Reading is fun and fundamental so maybe I should have engaged with the manual before returning this unit.
  • Pros: This unit is well built and is easy to setup. Works well with my wireless mouse and keyboard. Also, it makes my two computer dual monitor setup so convenient
  • Cons: It is a little expensive but it does what I need it to do.

Replaced 2 of these because of audio defect

Gregory B., Newegg
8 July 2015
  • Summary: I hope that it's just that I have been extremely unlucky with this unit and not indicative of the quality of the item. Hopefully the third time is a charm.
  • Pros: The unit is easy to set up. Also, this unit seems to be well-built. All functions except the audio seem to work as expected.
  • Cons: Audio did not work on one side on two separate units. Also, I had to change the display settings a couple of times because the would change during window startup.

Works like a slightly tarnished charm.

  • Excerpt: This dual monitor two computer KVM is well built and the set-up instructions are clear. The switch functions without problem but the instructions are not quite what they should be. Firstly, the plugs marked for computer "A" really are those for computer "B" and vice versa!

Great Box

William C., Newegg
18 July 2011
  • Summary: Wish the DVI version of this box wasn't so pricey.
  • Pros: Bought 2 of these and they work as expected in an office environment doing RDP, etc. Couldn't be happier.
  • Cons: None so far.

  • Summary: As of this post New Egg does not list the supported OS by the device. IOGear support sucks. After contacting IOGear support and explaining my problem and checking 2 things the support person asked what OS I was running on, after support learned the OS they responded and I quote "We do not support...
  • Pros: Supports dual screens for both computers
  • Cons: Under Windows 7 regardless of the computer being viewed, the device will reset itself anywhere from 1-90 minutes. Some times after a reset some or all of the devices lockup or shut down forcing a system reboot and lose of work. On average I lose 1 hour per day due to the device resets, not includ...

Time-Saver Money-Saver

El Maguey, B&H Photo
6 October 2010
  • Excerpt: With this device there is no need to buy extra monitors or power down and switch cables when using two desktop computers. Simply push a button (or use the Hot Keys option) and you can toggle between boxes. Easy to set up and use and takes up very little space on my table.

An elegant solution

Piccutter, B&H Photo
12 August 2010
  • Excerpt: I have been struggling with 3 mechanical switch boxes to bounce between my two dual monitor Macs. The video switches, after a few weeks, began to fail. The contacts became faulty and the monitors displayed incorrect colors or incorrect luma. I had to manipulate the switch to get a near decent image.

IOGear KVN GCS1742

Tim O., Newegg
21 May 2010
  • Summary: No heat problems here... I have it fully loaded with USB and it is stone cold. I'm not using the external power supply and never have (still in box), so maybe that is why I'm not having that problem.
  • Pros: 2 computers with dual monitors. Supports a mix Mac/PC environment well. No need for power supply as it pulls it from USB. Solid case... professional feel and look. I had this thing connected for over 2 years and love it. Having a real box to switch to is better than using VMWare/Paralles.
  • Cons: Sometimes when switching the mouse is lost. However the fix is easy... toggle back and forth and it comes back. Might actually be the computer(s) fault?

If you need it this is the way to go

  • Excerpt: It's expensive and it has issues with Windows 7, but if you're working with multiple displays this sure saves space and cash. It did not work with my speakers though and this is a real shortcoming if you ask me. They say it should work with any powered set of speakers, but only two.
