Pros: Price. Easy to Clean. Tray, feeder tube, pusher, sausage attachments all fit in a single 1 gallon ziplock bag for storage. If you grind it yourself, you know what you're eating.
Cons: Auger shaft and dies are made of Tool Steel and while very hard & durable they will rust while you watch them air dry... wash & dry, then immediately place these 4 parts in cooking oil (peanut oil has the best shelf life).
Summary: At area supermarkets, whole meats are often significantly cheaper than ground. I decided to take advantage of the price difference and grind my own. This unit is well built and easy to use, and produces ground meats of better quality than I was buying for much more. Not only will it eventually pay for itself, I believe it reduces the risk of e coli contamination that is an increasing problem with packaged ground meats.
