Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro review

Hardware in Review
28 November 2005
  • Excerpt: The Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro was designed for maximum comfort, durability, and battery life. The keyboard is among the most comfortable I've ever used, and the mouse is the perfect size for my hand, not too small like most mice. This package may not be suitable for gamers, as the mouse wheel moves fluidly (it doesn't click in steps), but for business users it's practically perfect.

  • Excerpt: The Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro is the same price as the Logitech Cordless Comfort Duo but offers more mouse features. Equipped with Tilt Wheel Technology, the accompanying IntelliMouse streamlines up-and-down as well as side-to-side scrolling. If you work with spreadsheets all day, the mouse's easy horizontal scrolling can be a real sanity saver. And the Desktop Pro is equipped with back/forward Web navigation buttons.

  • Summary: My favorite was the keyboard. This keyboard is very stylish with its silver and gray colors makes it the ultimate choice to use daily. However, there was a downside to the keyboard. The Enhanced Hot Keys interfere with the regular keys such as F1, F2, etc. Such as in Internet Explorer F5 for refresh doesn't work if F5 key 'Open' is enabled. Also, I could not do Print Screen with Ctrl + Print Screen combination.

  • Summary: This set is a fantastic addition to Microsoft's line of input devices. For $99 bucks you get a top quality keyboard and a wireless optical mouse and receiver. This might seem a little steep to the average user, but trust me, with Microsoft you get what you pay for. This isn't a cheap product. The build quality is very high and driver support is second to none.
  • Pros: Free your desktop from wires and clutter, Optical technology means no mouse cleaning, Battery life is great (Rechargeable batteries recommended), Keyboard is super comfortable (Once you are used to it)
  • Cons: No side buttons on mouse, Not really for pro gaming

Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro (2004)

  • Conclusion: This product is perfect for those who want a "techish" style in their lives without having the boldness of the Optical Blue Wireless products and do not want to spend the money for the Bluetooth Desktop. It’s almost unfortunate with all the new options available in the mouse line that only metallic grey finish was available, but this color probably appeases a larger crowd then the rest.
  • Pros: Enhanced Optical Technology, Nice Color/Design, Longer Battery Life, Tilt Wheel
  • Cons: No Real Keyboard Updates, Not Bluetooth

Équipé d'un bon nombre de touches de raccourcis, le clavier se pilote du bout des doigts. La souris offre une excellente précision faisant de cet ensemble une réussite.
