Summary: I have bought five of these units over the last three years. The last two have had the batteries in the mouse cut from two to one, cutting the battery life in half. Then there's the above mentioned scroll wheel. Seems I've seen a pattern here, taking a good product and screwing it up. Way to go, MS.
Pros: Good function at a distance for HTPC. Good battery life until later models were cut to one battery.
Cons: On two of these units the scroll wheel has come loose from its axle. Because of this I have switched brands.
Cons: No numlock, capslock, scroll lock indicator LED. You have to install Microsoft software in order to get an on-screen keylock status, which is not as good as LEDs (especially for hunt-and-peck typists)
Summary: If the mouse was reliable this would be a 4-5 star review based on the value.
Pros: The feel and functionality of everything was great. Very comfortable to use. Sleek look, mirror black.
Cons: Keyboard is loud. Mouse has become so intermittent it only functions about 50% of the time. You can shake it just slightly to get it to work again. Tried batteries to no avail. The optical sensor just goes out and comes back. This is in the middle of use, not after sitting for some time. Research...
Excerpt: The keyboard works fine as a keyboard should. The mouse not so much. It is sluggish and cheaply made. It WAS cheap. If you need a keyboard and want a free mouse, it was very affordable and acceptable for the price.
Summary: I am using this combo on a HTPC and at a distance of 6 feet it doesn't have the best wireless connection. Had to tie up one of my two usb ports on the front panel for the receiver to make a decent connection. Does have a nice classic feel to the keys.
Pros: Nice layout and good feel to the keys.
Cons: I don't always seem to have a solid wireless connection, so it misses keystrokes once in awhile and mouse pointer jumps around.
Excerpt: When placing a purchase, I rely heavily on customer reviews. I figured for the high(er) price of this set, I would be happier and suffer with fewer problems. I'm not going to come right out and say it doesn't work well, because when it does work, I love it!
Excerpt: Some folk like the shiny chassis. I am not a big fan. Looks nice out of box, but it very quickly looks nasty with finger prints after just normal usage. Functionality is good. Good price after getting the price match.
Pros: Comfortable Design, Easy To Set Up, Fast Response, Highly Compatible, Quiet
