Good keyboard, alright price
25 January 2013
Summary: Not mechanical, but it functions pretty well. Adjustable brightness on the back-lighting is big plus. Moving from a regular keyboard to this takes a little while to get used to as you'll sometimes press a macro key instead of ctrl when playing games. The palm rest is not detachable but is more comfortable than it looks.
Minor troubleshooting required for the function keys
27 September 2012
Summary: On a Win7 64bit machine, after proper installation, they keyboard worked fine except the function keys - programmable macro keys included - worked normally (i.e. when viewing the desktop) but not in many games. Solution was to run the keyboard's background process as an administrator. Program Files > Microsoft IntelliTypePro > R-click "iType.exe" > Properties > Compatibility > Check "Run this program as an administrator.
Summary: I can never go back to a keyboard without backlighting. The red lighting is great in the dark. It's adjustable if you want the light dimmer or off. Keys feel great for typing and for gaming. On the fly macro recording is easy and works great. If you need to tweak the timing between key presses in a macro then the included software will let you adjust those, create and name macros and create macro profiles that activate when you have the selected program in the...
Summary: Only used a few weeks but reliable at this point. I enjoy the lighted keyboard option (and I don't mind red either) and the ease-of-use typical of many of Microsoft's products. But, like others, I dislike the "shiny" finish and would also have preferred a soft wrist rest as opposed to their hard plastic one. Overall, a good keyboard and worth the very modest investment should it hold up as well as other MS Sidewinder products I've used.
Summary: My son wanted this for the light up key feature (likes to play games on computer in dark). I have not hear one complaint from him. For myself, it took some time to get used to typing on it as the keys are closer (smaller) than a regular keyboard. It also seems quieter to type on than a regular keyboard (nice feature).
Summary: Great keyboard and it looks great under backlight. Pros -The backlight makes everything easy to see at night. -Macros keys are easy to record and change. -Overall great keyboard either with gaming or just using a keyboard. -Water resistance. Cons -The only thing I don't like is that the escape and that entire toolbar are apart from the keys. This is a great keyboard for an amazing price. Would happily recommend this to everyone I know.
Summary: Typing with this keyboard now! The first thing I did after plugging it in was test the media controls. And to my surprise, they worked just fine with Foobar 2000. I had expected to do some backdoor solution for it, but nope, plug n' play true to it's name. The backlights are on par with what previous reviews describe. They aren't too overbearing and work nicely at night. During the day, the keys do look a pale pink. It's no problem, I can see my keys during the day.
Summary: First things first: I like loud, thick keys. I should be buying a mechanical keyboard but they're expensive. But this is one of the best feeling non-mechanical keyboards out there. The buttons aren't as snappy as I typically like them, but it does quite well considering that the keys are rather thin and don't have a ton of travel. Took me a bit to get used to the Ctrl key not being in the bottom left corner, and it still irks me that there isn't two Windows keys.
Summary: Overall a well-made keyboard. The macro keys are convenient. Now I can press a key and instantly access my audio/video folder and Starcraft II program. Cons: (1) The backlight is kinda dim. (2) The keystrokes feel a bit weird and uncomfortable. I think it will get better as I get used to the keyboard.
Summary: Well I type this from the X4 itself, and I will say the keys are a bit different and take a bit of adjusting to. I'm sure it isn't that big of a deal and other than that everything is excellent. No lag, back-lit keys that aren't to intrusive at night, stylish design, and great build quality. If your looking for a good gaming keyboard and dont want to pay to much then look no further because Microsoft nailed this one.
