Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000

The Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 is a split-key design keyboard from Microsoft. The split keys and the curved design is meant to give the user a more natural and comfortable hand position while typing. It measures about 9 inches long,9.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches high. The keyboard is wired and connects via a USB port but does not have a built-in USB hub.

Ergonomics

The Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 has a curved design which the manufacturer calls the “gull wing.” The gull wing design has a 14 degree upward curve for a more natural open-angle hand position while bringing the keys closer to the fingers. It has a built-in palm rest which is padded and made from faux leather. The keyboard features a 12 degree split and comes with a removable attachment that raises the front of the keyboard. When attached, the palm lift gives a 7 degree downward slope meant to improve wrist and hand positions.

Added Features

The Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 has a zoom slider in the area between the split keys. The palm rest also features dedicated back and forward buttons and LED lights for status indications.

The keyboard also features enhanced F keys which can be toggled via the F key lock and customized using the included software. It also has dedicated keys for Internet, Email, Search, Calculator and Multimedia controls. In addition to the programmable F keys, the keyboard also has five customizable keys labeled “My Favorites”.

Compatibility

The Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. It comes with Microsoft’s IntelliPro software for configuration of the programmable keys.

There is a problem with your keyboard. Download the drivers to fix it.

  • MS keyboard will not work in new USB port

My new MS Ergonomic 4000 keyboard works fine if I plug it into the front panel USB port (which is USB 1.1), but NOT if I plug it into the USB 2.0 port I just installed in a PCI slot. I've verified that other devices in the newly installed USB ports are working. The problem starts at boot, with a "missing keyboard" error message.

    Answered by Lean 2009-12-07:

Then connect your keyboard to a USB 1.1, it might be that it is not compatible with the USB
