Conclusion: When we reviewed the S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 several months ago we were so impressed by it that the only thing we couldn't figure out was the reason as to why Mad Catz chose to use a special engineered membrane design for the keys instead of a mechanical one. For us the overall build quality, the design and all the features of the keyboard were at such high levels that mechanical keys seemed like the only obvious choice.
Conclusion: To be sure, we had plenty of quibbles with this board, but in fairness, the S.T.R.I.K.E. 5 definitely comes at eager gamers with a unique, fresh design for their desktops. As for the total usefulness of the keyboard and its attached parts, its accompanying software, or the entire “disassembly” gimmick that Mad Catz employs with its S.T.R.I.K.E.
Conclusion: The Mad Catz STRIKE 5 is a good iteration from the STRIKE 7. Ignoring the touchscreen/OLED panel, the rest of the keyboard is almost identical between the two brothers. Some slight changes have been made in the STRIKE 5, some good some bad. For example they changed the surface material slightly from a rubbery to metallic feel. This choice worked great.
Pros: Macros that have accurate time delays and virtually no input limits, Customizable in terms of hardware and software, EYE OLED panel runs apps such as timers/stopwatches, A keyboard that closely resembles the feel of a Mechanical keyboard feel without the excessive sound, Ridiculously large number of macro buttons, Looks fabulous with its 16 million RGB back-lighting
Excerpt: When we looked at the Mad Catz S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 Gaming Keyboard, the thing that stuck with me was its high price point. It seems that Mad Catz was thinking about this too as they released the little brother to that keyboard, the S.T.R.I.K.E. 5 model. Now that I have tried that unit out, I am in a position to compare the two of them so you don’t have to! Your wallets are welcome. In looks alone, the S.T.R.I.K.E.
