Logitech Cordless Desktop MX3000 Laser

3 July 2006
  • Summary: The heart of any Logitech product is always the software.  This can be both a blessing and a curse.  The blessing is that you have a plethora of settings and customizability available to you and the downside is that you have to run a piece of software to do this.  A quick look at the task manager shows that SetPoint takes about 15MB of memory, so it uses a fair bit to control and do everything that it needs to make your computing experience smooth.
  • Pros: Great quality and performance keyboard and mouse., Wireless connectivity has great response., Good range on both products - Mouse works over 15 feet from base - Keyboard works even farther., Can assign keystrokes and other functions to extra hotkeys, and buttons on mouse., Logitech quality.
  • Cons: SetPoint CD comes with other "adware".

  • Conclusion: The Explorer 3.0 looks positively dowdy next to the MX 500 and 700, though, and their beauty is more than skin deep. Check 'em out.

  • Pros: plenty of extra keys on the keyboard, good precision from the mouse
  • Cons: Mouse is light and cheap to the touch, keyboard has so many keys you probably won't use half of them
