Kenneth A. Patterson "The Haunted Studios(tm)", Amazon
28 December 2012
Summary: A very small and poorly made keyboard. CONS: LED back lighting too dim to be of any use. Hinged protective door broke off second time used. Trackball shipped dirty and defective. several keys not working out of the box. PROS: Amazon return policy. This thing was unpacked, defective, and packed for return within 30 minutes.
Summary: I have owned several cheap htpc remote options. I even purchased the very overpriced Logitech offering. They are all horrible in comparison to this unit. I have now purchased 3 of these units and all have worked perfectly right out of the box. The scroll wheel is a great feature. Don't worry about the track ball (you will quickly become accustomed to it). The back light is totally sufficient unless you are ancient and can't see the buttons.
Summary: First of all let me inform the readers of this review that I am an Electronics Technician with 26 years experience working with electronics in the medical field. I ordered this Mini Multimedia Keyboard after purchasing a new Panasonic 50" Plasma, Smart TV (TC-50GT50 ). Iogear requests each recipient to call them before setting up the device. To be compliant I called the number provided and was in cue as the second person to speak to Tech Support/Customer Service.
Summary: so i bought this $60 piece of junk (you should really get rid of this item for sale amazon), a month later the trackball does not work porperly at all. i was really excited about this product as it worked well when i first got it (at least it served its purpose). it is really cheap and flimsy, i didnt expect it to last forever, but one month? it is apparent that this was cheaply made.
Summary: Bought the IOGEAR mini keyboard for my Mac Mini. Loading it up and getting it to work was easy with no problems. I am using it from about 8 feet away. However, the track ball action and key stroke recognition is inconsistent at times. Sometimes it works great but then at others times it will not react. Also the track ball does not have any push button selection action. It is a pure positioning device.
Summary: After reading numerous reveiws here and elsewhere on the web praising this keyboard of HTPC use... I decided to give it a go. Here are my opinions on what's good and bad about it: Pro's: ------ 1) Has all F1-F12 keys unlike most of the compact keyboards I've seen (*see 2nd Con before you get too excited). 2) Has backlighting (*see 3rd Con before you get too excited). 3) Has the Ctrl key in the right spot....
Summary: This is a great device! Works on Xbox360 PS3, Windows and Mac. My house is too small to sufficiently test the range but i have not even had a hiccup up to twenty five feet. Frankly it would be a five star rating except for the button press depth is too far and it really needs ctrl and alt buttons on the right hand side of the keyboard. Could possibly stand to use an extra inch in the X and Z dimensions but my hands are also larger than average.
Summary: I've used this device for several months and have no real problem with it. I do however wished that the buttons weren't so squishy and the track ball more responsive. The quality of the device isn't too great but not too bad considering the low cost of the device. The locations of the buttons and the scroll wheel are pretty intuitive but again, the sluggish track ball hinders with free browsing and can become frustrating to use for extended period of time.
Summary: Well let me just say stay away from this for your HTPC. Yes a backlit small keyboard is great for laying in bed and flipping around through my video collection. However this is not the device to use for it. First off I need the arrow keys for WMC to move through the menus easily. This requires pressing the function key so just moving around is a 2 handed operation.
Summary: Update 6: Whaddaya know!? I retried my second replacement refurb and THIS TIME IT WORKED! Not like my first, new one, that had a trackball that could not go "up," not like my first refurb, which clicked on items the cursor was not over (and also did not go up). This one works! So, I must give credit where credit is due. I am now happy with my Iogear keyboard.
