Summary: After installing Windows 8 I attempted to install the ZEngine and midway though the setup the system would stop with a Violation error and reboot. I contacted Steelseries support and received this.
Summary: The Merc stealth is in my oppinion the best gaming console out there. For me there were two main insentives for buying this device. First was the built in gaming pad, second was the backlit keyboard.
Summary: I bought this keyboard to play games easier. It definitely does that. The software comes with a HUGE number of presets. You just select the game and jump in. Even better, it has a setting to detect the game and it switches the controls automatically!
Summary: My biggest gripe is that I should have looked closer at the keyboard before purchase. I need a double-duty KEYBOARD (business with gaming as a secondary), not a gaming-only keypad.
Pros: This keyboard is sturdy and of decent quality. For the most part the layout is good (see below), and the software is easy to use. Automatic updates are smooth and simple.
Cons: My keyboard came with NO installation CD, thankfully their website has up-to-date software download (50+MB). PLEASE make the Keyboard 3" wider so that certain function keys have their own space (see below)!
Summary: Aside from the one serious con (the one about the number pad), this is a great keyboard. For most casual gamers, etc etc, I would suggest you buy this keyboard. HOWEVER: For those expecting to game at LANs or go pro, etc, I would STRONGLY advise against this keyboard for one reason.
Pros: - Gamepad takes getting used to, but once you've used it for a while, you'll never want to go back to WASD - Rubberized buttons feel great. I've had this board for almost a year, and (contrary to some reviews I've seen here) the rubber hasn't worn off any of the buttons, even though I game on thi...
Cons: (most of these are minor annoyances of mine) - Backlighting always defaults to red at highest brightness when the computer is turned on, and I find the red backlighting particularly unattractive. - Number pad layout sucks, have to turn off num lock to access delete, pg up, pg down, etc. I underst...
Summary: I'm a big fan of Ideazon products. I previously owned their Zboard, but had some problems with it. The Merc Stealth, though, that solves all the problems I had and then some. On the positive side of things, the keyboard is responsive, with solid keys and good action.
Cons: After owning this keyboard for 6 months, mainly used for gaming the gaming Rubberized keys left, right up and down are all worn down to bare plastic. The down directional key button support tab broke off recently during a normal gaming session in Team Fortress 2 now I am using the regular WASD key...
Summary: Steelseries bought Ideazon soley for their foothold in the retail market and not for their products. Steelseries is selling out their own name anyway. The WOW mouse was an overpriced bugfest and the Ikari feels incredibly cheap for what they're asking for it.
Pros: Great gaming layout. Functions pretty well without drivers as most games have key remapping and the gamepad is essentially an extra set of keys in a special layout and not dependent on software to function - the multi-media keys at the top of the board are, however. The color changing function st...
Cons: Software disk is useless and Z-engine software may or may not work for you depending on your OS. Steelseries bought out Ideazon and is killing off Ideazon's product line, so don't expect any support for this product. I'm deducting an egg for lousy support, the keyboard is actually very good.
Summary: Overall an excellent gaming keyboard. Took a few hours to get used to typing further to the right than usual, and turning Num Lock on and off to use the keys that have been merged into the Numpad. LED lighting is excellent, the best I have seen in any keyboard I have personal experience with.
Pros: Keys are very responsive and don't make too much noise. All extra keys work wonderfully, and setup is a breeze. Extra function keys found on Numpad are extremely handy. Gaming hotkeys are placed very well, and make many tasks quicker and easier.
Cons: Notification lights (for Num Lock, Caps Lock, etc) sometimes stick on regardless of state of actual functions. Installing software caused my computer to cease recognizing my USB speakers; use a headset for most gaming anyway, but it'd be nice to be able to switch to speakers for music or movies.
