Poor quality...

Sergio Haynes, Amazon
6 May 2009
  • Summary: Same as previous reviewers. I have had these speakers for a couple of years and each time I plug them in, they make me cring. There is absolutely no bass response. Most computer speakers today sound better than these.

Great for what they are

Clifford Nelson "Clifford", Amazon
19 August 2006
  • Summary: These speakers are excellent for what they are. Most USB powered speakers require two cables, one for the USB power and one to plug into the sound input of the computer. This one sends the sound information over the USB cable; great for transportability.

Horrible

Robert Cannon "Cybertelecom", Amazon
14 February 2006
  • Summary: There is essentially no sound amplification. The sound levels are barely different with the thing on as opposed to having it off. Sort of a "what were they thinking" product.

sounds worse than the laptop speakers

M. Magnarella "ITGuy", Amazon
17 August 2004
  • Summary: The builtin speakers in my laptop sounded better and louder than these speakers. The Sony's highs are muddy and the volume does not go very loud (yes my laptop volume was all the way up). If you want extra laptop speakers for your presentations with clients look elsewhere.

Speakers stopped working days after warranty expired

Troy Riedel, Amazon
30 July 2004
  • Summary: I am an instructor. I needed a speaker system with a very small profile for international air travel. A friend of mine, who works for a major computer company, recommended these due to their size (though he did warn me the sound quality is average).

Enhanced listening

pedsflightrn, shopping.com
15 February 2004
  • Excerpt: You will not get audiophile sound with these speakers, but they are quite and improvement over the speaker typically installed in your laptop. They will put out a great deal of sound, more than I expected. It is a very compact package that does not require batteries. It installed quite easily.
  • Pros: No batteries. Neat little package.
  • Cons: Not sound created for an audiophile.

Clever add-on speakers

maxi_mark, shopping.com
20 December 2003
  • Excerpt: If you are unsatisfied with the tinny sound of your laptop speakers, you can hook up to some external speakers, but then you are tethered to s pair of extra speakers with the attendant extra wires and power supplies or batteries. Sony has come up with a clever idea.
  • Pros: Compact portable external speakers, no batteries required
  • Cons: So-so sound quality.
