Summary: I am very satisfied with the sound quality, build quality as well as the design. The charger also works great. The only problem is when I connected it as a Bluetooth speaker with my desktop, if I plug iPhone/iPad to the speaker at the same time, the volume is messed up. No matter what volume level I've set in my desktop OS, the volume changes according to iPhone/iPad's level when there is a call or a message comes in. This really creates a big hassle.
Summary: I got this for my Mom for my birthday and of course she has hardly used them at all, so I've pretty much taken them over and they are great! Very loud and good sound quality and I'm no speaker expert, but I'm certainly glad I went with the JBL On Beat. Just got a new computer with bluetooth capability and I've been listening to music nonstop. I definitely recommend this product.
Excerpt: I opened the box, and was deterred from setting up by the lack of a power cord from the converter to the plug. my husband happened to have the required part from an old cassette tape player, so I got it set up. Wow! Great sound, and easy as pie to set up with bluetooth and the audio in and the 30 pin ipad dock. This works with everything! No worries about 30 pin or bluetooth or audio jack - it's all there. I listen to classical music and audio books mostly.
Excerpt: Very happy with this speaker. Only downside is it is not exactly portable, it requires you to plug it into the wall. On the upside it has awesome sound, much better than all of the little portable Bluetooth speakers out on the market. I like the interface for the wife's I-Phone, easily docks and controls the speaker. The Bluetooth connects quickly for both the I-phone and my android and has excellent range.
Summary: Not sure if I just got a lemon, but this speaker doesn't seem worth the price. The bluetooth connects easily, but the speaker doesn't actually emit any sound until you've disconnected and reconnected the bluetooth several times and turned the speaker on and off. The set-up has to be monkeyed with almost every time you want to use the speaker. The dock is no better, as it charges the phone immediately but requires you to monkey with it if you want sound from the speaker.
Summary: With so many different brands and models out there it has become quite difficult for an average consumer to find a good value without buying, testing and returning a significant amount of portable speakers. Even then you cannot even dream of trying them all but I did test quite a few and the JBL Venue was one of the top three on my list or rather, was.
