The Bose SoundDock Portable looks and sounds good, but its limited portability and hefty price tag detract from the overall package. Read more

    • Pleasing sound quality. Attractive, minimalist design. Retractable iPod tray. Remote has good range.
    • Expensive. Portability is limited. Remote navigation could be better.

Bose's audio systems are among the most popular on the market, and for good reason: they provide powerful sound from a relatively small digital device. But Bose's products tend to be a bit more expensive than those of many of its competitors; it's part of the brand's allure, but is it worth it? Read more

I n a world full of iPod docking stations, it’s no surprise to see Bose launch yet another. The latest to hit the stores is simply called Bose iPod Docking Station. The need for a docking station is in keeping with one's desire to have music played loudly, but it may not be that great an idea if you crave extreme loudness. Read more

The main stumbling block with the SoundDock isn't anything to do with its design or sound quality. In fact, this is a well-designed rechargeable speaker system that does the job it's designed to do well, notwithstanding the ineffectual remote. It's the price that really sticks in the craw: £280 is a lot for most people to spend on their main hi-fi system, let alone one to put in the kitchen and use in the garden occasionally. Read more

  1. Great way to play the ipod at the pool

The Bose SoundDock portable is a very nice niche product. Here in Florida we spend a lot of time at the Pool. By law, there isn't a lot of AC power available at a swimming pool so portable audio devices are a must. The problem has been, that no Radio station plays my songs and only my songs. ;) And only one person can listen to a portable device with headphones. CDs just don't get it. Read more

The Bose is the 3rd portable I've purchased. The other two, in the $150-250, had terrible sound or they broke down. So I finally broke down and forked over the $$$ to get the best. And it is!!! This unit provides exceptional sound quality at all volume levels. It could be your only sound system, for the house or the beach. Very well-designed. Love the touch-sensitive volume control. Quality shocked my friends and family. Read more

How is it these days that we can't seem to buy anything without feeling we have to research it to death/get the best possible price?! Well trust me look no further. I did just that and still angst for months about whether a speaker (yes lets get real this is just a speaker!) could really be worth near on £350 esp when as one of the other feedbackers' points out, its over a £100 more than series one....really just to be portable?!!! But honestly it is. Read more
