Summary: I recently purchased the A7 to use as my Airplay speakers for the AppleTV. Recently, the AppleTV added the ability to specify AirPlay speakers. The problem is it is not very easy to change volume. (It can only be done with the IR remote for AppleTV, and then only by pausing and adjusting. Very awkward.) Other AirPlay speaker manufactures--I won't mention names--have fixed this by adding this volume controls to their respective Apps.
Summary: I was really unsure about buying the a7, after reading a whole host of negative comments about it's AirPlay connection stability, but I am soooo pleased I did. This speaker is beautiful, sounds incredible, is a cinch to set up and it's airplay connection has been flawless. Of course it's pricey, but you will not hear better sound with AirPlay convenience.
Summary: I have my A7 in my living room (17' x 12'). It is not my principle device for sitting and listening to music. I use it to provide background music; sometimes quietly when I am in the room, sometimes louder when I am in another room. The sound quality is good enough for those purposes. The initial connection setup went okay, but there are occasional drop outs. I have been using it for six months. I needed to re-do the setup once in that time.
Summary: I purchased the A7 to replace an old Cambridge Soundworks system and I am extremely pleased. The A7 is a well-crafted powered speaker system that incorporates the versatility of Airplay with the proven sound quality for which B&W is famous. I am using it in my office to stream from iTunes and from my Apple TV. Setup was accomplished in about 3 minutes with no issues. In fact the most difficult task was removing the protective tape from the remote control battery.
Summary: WHEN it's connected to the wifi, this unit sounds great. Way better sound than the Zeppelin. But, it loses wifi connection way to often. There about 20 combinations of flashing, pulsing, and solid colours for the little led indicator on the front. Flashing red (fast as opposed to pulsing) means, literally, "invalid input - any". What in the world does THAT mean??? There is nothing in the owners manual to tell you what to do.
Summary: The A7 took two day out of my life to set up and configure! Having said that, now that it is working I am very pleased with the quality of the sound and all my music is streaming nicely from my iPlaid. Afterglow (Of Your Love) by the Small Faces has never sounded better!
Summary: Constant headache trying to reset it. Thought it was the unit and got a replacement for it, but the second one has the same connectivity issues. The unit looses connection to the local wifi network. At this price it should be flawless. Skip this one and save yourself the trouble!
Summary: OK. I loooove the sound of this thing. Plus, does it get any easier than Airplay for iOS and iTunes users? I think not. So here is the catch. As other have mentioned, the WiFi connection is a bit shaky. It runs on G so it's stuck at 2.4GHZ as I understand it. I use an Airport Extreme which runs both 2.4 and 5 GHZ at the same time. I changed my channel on the 2.4G to 11 - anything above 5 should work. Since then it's been solid.
Summary: Nothing compares with the sound quality of B & W A7 as I have owned the Bose Soundlink & JBL Extreme both excellent units . I use this unit as a sound bar for the TV and wireless music through iPhone and iTunes in computer. Balance, Clarity, sub woofer are as close to perfection as it comes for its size . Both side by side and my Onkyo, Klispch and Velodyne home system is 10% versus B&W A7 gets 90% usage. Also the tech support is excellent.
