Summary: Ring switch works fine, don't let that deter you. In my opinion a normal switch would have been better.
Pros: Got it on sale here at a very good price. Battery life is outstanding using Energizer 850 mAh rechargable NiMH. I've been pretty happy with previous Atlec Lansing audio products and this one is no exception.
Cons: Ring switch around the top is strange and uncomfortable to turn on and off. It'd be really tough to turn on if you only had one hand.
Summary: Definately worth $10-20 - not sure about $30. This little guy is great for people who travel a lot for work and like to listen to music on laptops/iPods in hotels. I use my in the bathroom sometimes for a little shower/shaving music.
Pros: Great Size, Batteries Last, Sound is very solid, compact efficient design.
Cons: Would like a little "on" light - but I realize that would probably use more battery (though not much).
Summary: if the 'ring' worked I'd give 5 eggs. NewEgg is always good for me. got it in 3 days, ordered Sunday, got it Wednesday. So, 5 eggs for Newegg, 4 for the ring.
Pros: That little speaker sounds good! Works good on my Zune and laptop. It's a high quality speaker except the 'ring'. And, for 10 bucks and free shipping.... The wire is 8" long and is 'about right' for me.
Cons: As others said, the 'ring' on/off switch is hard for small hands. mine is large and it works for me, but, my grandsons can not even turn it on. I think the 'ring' will be easier as more you use it.
Summary: Not worth more than $10. I lost a set of Aiwa speakers bought 1987. Batteries also not included. But there is sound without turning on the power. The engineers of this speaker should have allowed sound at "off", and amplified sound at "on" mode.
Pros: Got it for $10 each here at Newegg. Better than the speakers in my Netbook.
Cons: Not really great as a gift. Batteries not included. No external power supply, have to mod it. Didn't expect a strong base, and there wasn't one.
Summary: I love mine, use it mostly on my laptop, and frequently so. It has lasted about 6 months so far with no problems whatsoever. So transportable and convenient!! Others have said changing the batteries can be difficult-- it's pretty easy to do, really, you just need to get the hang of it.
Pros: - really easy to transport/use, obviously - can get quite loud if you want it to - perfect for laptops and quiet little mp3 players - battery life is fairly long - there's a little groove to hold the cord so it doesn't just dangle there
Cons: - as the battery life goes down, the sound degrades, rather than staying strong until the batteries are out and dying altogether - on/off ring is slightly annoying, but only a real problem if you have lotion-y hands or something - it would be cool if you didn't need batteries at all, but eh. - ca...
Pros: A GREAT bargain when on sale with free shipping. I picked up two of these a few months ago and have been very pleased with the sound quality. I use it to listen to podcasts mostly and the monaural sound has been perfectly fine.
Cons: As most have mentioned, the on/off switch is goofy and a bit stiff, but should be a very minor issue unless you have severe arthritis or limited mobility.
Summary: Shouldn't have to fix a design flaw, but for $9.99 it was worth it, at $14.99 is questionable, at $19.99 or more it may not be worth it to some. But always read as many reviews as possible, as that's what clued me in to the fixes.
Pros: Great sound from small container-most people are amazed at the richness and volume.
Cons: Short cord, nearly impossible on/off switch, but as other reviewers have said, pry off chrome ring carefully, use nail file to lightly sand down plastic nubs, then light wax or soap on nubs and replace-works fine then.
