Where's the VA VA BOOM?Y

"Classy" Wil B, J&R
27 January 2010
  • Summary: Don't expect booming bass from this speaker. Not for the Rap, Heavy Metal, and Classical fans. Better suited for Easy Listening type music. You can't beat the price.
  • Pros: Compact
  • Cons: Cord too short, So-so sound quality

Altec Lansing Orbit-MP3: Turn me on if you can

davomrmac, Dooyoo

  • Summary: In my quest for a portable speaker, I picked up one of these and an XMI Mini II speaker (see my other review)... they are both very similar products. The idea behind the orbit is very similar to the XMI Mini II, to provide portable sound to carry with you whilst out and about, or perhaps to travel light on holiday. The Orbit is quite large, about 90mm across, even though it only houses a 40mm speaker unit.
  • Pros: Good sound quality
  • Cons: Poor battery life and bad on/off switch design

Good as gym equipment

Ronald Starr "pekisko kid", Amazon

  • Summary: I've had the Orbit for about six weeks. The speaker is fine; I use it mostly to listen to newscasts on my first-generation ipod touch. Turning it on and off is the problem--it's like trying to open a new jar of jam or pickles, and if your hands are the least bit damp or oily it's hopeless. Also, at least half the time during this on/off struggle, the battery cover on the bottom of the speaker pops off. Maybe I just got a lemon.
