Broke - Bought 2 and neither lasted
19 September 2013
Summary: We purchased two of these for our kids, one for an iPod and one for an iPhone. Right out of the box we really liked the size (not so large that it takes up an entire shelf, and the sturdiness of the player. The one for the iPod didn't work from the start and we returned it for a full return (less shipping). I was frustrated that we were not refunded for the shipping since it didn't ever work while in our possession but there was no way around that.
Summary: I did some research before buying an iPod dock to replace my Athena dock that I had for years. This Altec looked good on paper. Took delivery, hooked it up, powered it up and put on a song. It sounded weak and tinny. I had it set up in my garage and it just didn't measure up in any respect. Clarity was marginal. Volume was insufficient. I spent $60 on this unit. So, more research. I settled on the iHome iP3 Studio Series Audio System with Bongiovi Acoustics Technology.
Summary: It doesn't work with iPhone 4, and that is not clear from this page or the packaging or the product's web site. It probably has good sound, but when I plug in the iPhone 4 a message pops up on my screen that says "This Accessory Not Compatible with This Device" or something close to that.
Summary: I received the IMT320 and immediately tried to use it with my iPod and iPod Touch. Didn't work. Contacted Altec for support. They said I needed the latest software, which I didn't have. So, I downloaded the most recent iTunes software, and it still didn't work. Tried my son's iPhone 3 and it didn't work either. So, I contacted Altec support again. They said it was a software problem. I told them that he LED light next to the "On" button didn't work.
Summary: After owning this Altec Lansing speaker dock for 6 months, the volume control and shut off button stopped working. It would only operate at full max volume and I had to unplug the thing to shut it off. You get what you pay for, and this speaker dock is cheaply made.
Summary: I loved using this at my bedside while I listened to podcasts. Worked wonderfully, sound was clear and had great depth. Then, after the Amazon product return period had lapsed, it simply stopped working. My iPod no longer made contact when it was placed into the system. Now I am stuck with another piece of crap to throw away and pollute the environment.
Summary: Well I agree with most of the reviewers - this speaker does sound great. However, heaven help you if it stops working. Altec have one of THE WORST customer support departments it have ever been my nail pulling torture to deal with. My speaker stopped working well inside warranty, and as requested by them I sent mine back for replacement....two months ago.
Summary: I have had these speakers since January. They worked great till this week when they stopped turning on. For the last two weeks I have been having errors on my Ipod saying "Firewire not supported" causing issues with the Ipod. I have been able to clear the Ipod errors and still use the speakers until this week when the speakers simply stopped turning on.
Summary: We bought this because we wanted something lightweight and easy to travel with that could play our music from our nano and ipod touch. However, for the first 6 months it worked great and we were very happy with it but now it doesn't work. It seems as though the docking is not connecting with the devices. If we use a toothpick it works but if it gets bumped, and we have two small children so it will get bumped, it stops playing and disconnects. Very disappointed.
Summary: Product appeared to be a superior product but within weeks stopped working and due to a hospitalization I could not return or get it replaced. BUMMED this is my 3rd try with different products to find working speakers for my mp3's.
