Excerpt: I ordered four of these drives, 3TB Desktop Mainstream HDD Retail Kit (WD30EZRX,Green), after one of my 4 year old Seagate HDDs failed in my Synology NAS device. I ordered on a Tuesday, best price I could find anywhere on the Internet (especially for retail kit), with the free expedited shipping and the drives arrived on Thursday.
Pros: Easy To Install, Low Operating Temp, Quiet, Reliable, Value - Cost Per Gigabyte
Summary: This was an awesome deal. We had run out of space on our home server and had been looking for a while for a larger hard drive. This 3 TB drive was the perfect solution and the price was so good. It installed easily and everything transferred easily. We now have some time before my husband runs us out of space again with all his music.
Summary: I purchased the 3TB model and it performs just as well as I thought it would. While it's only 5400 RPM, this 3-platter drive is almost 50% faster than the 2-platter 620GB 7200RPM drive that came with my computer due to the greatly increased capacity per platter (1TB @ 5400RPM > 320GB @ 7200RPM), so I'm very happy.
Excerpt: I bought two of these HDD's. One to replace my existing HDD and one to act as a removable backup. For such a large capacity, I am pleasantly surprised how quite the drives are when transferring data. I was a bit afraid of heat buildup on the drive I use in a removable caddy. But, again I was surprised as to how cool it runs even under full load. So far, I can't find a single fault with these HDD's. WD rules as always.
Pros: Easy To Install, Fast, Highly Compatible, Quiet, Reliable
Summary: Want to lose data... Like failures... this is the drive for you... mine lasted a whole month... the replacement lasted 2 months... I wasted my money... learn from my mistake... BUY an enterprise class drive... and raid them for data protection...
Summary: These drives are made to POWER DOWN and every bad review is based on users who know nothing about power settings in windows. If you are going to use these in a server and you leave the factory power settings stock then your drive will shut down in hibernation. Change the power settings in windows and disable any hibernation on drives and they should be fine.. I have 10 1tb's in my server running windows home server and have had zero issues for years now..
Summary: I had the same experience as the other reviewer. This drive is horrible. Western digital changed the packaging on the box but this is a western digital green drive. My experience with this drive is, when the OS goes to sleep this drive shuts off. So if one is copying a file and the OS goes to sleep, the drive shuts down and the copy stops. So if one starts a copy job and walks away from their machine the copy job will never finish.
