Failed after 13 months but I still recommend

Anonymous, Newegg
30 November 2014
  • Summary: Why give it four stars and still recommend it? All hard drive die eventually so that isn't a reason not to get this drive. Smart tripped and let me know the failure was coming. I was able to back all my data so this was an optimal failure if there is such a thing. Also, the WD RMA as fast and easy.
  • Pros: WD honored their warranty
  • Cons: Failed after 13 months

Great Drive to Upgrade your PS3

TRFB, Amazon
25 February 2014
  • Summary: I tried a solid state drive, and it didn't work. So, I looked and learned that the PS3 works best with 5400rpm drive. So, I bought this one and now I have no problems with the PS3. I downloaded DC Universe and don't have to worry about using up all of the disc space for other games and music.

Nice drive

Ed T., Newegg
4 February 2014
  • Pros: Worked flawlessly for a couple years where I would transfer 500GB to/from it on a daily basis to/from my laptop. I now use it as an additional hard drive in my case and haven't had any problems with it, not even once.
  • Cons: No complaints.

Going to check out other brands

Mark G., Newegg
12 January 2014
  • Pros: Quiet when it isn't clicking
  • Cons: Failed after about 6 uses. We went through something like this a couple of years ago with WD drives crashing almost immediately. I guess WD has brought back this problem for grins. I'll be checking out other brands again, for the last time!

Good drive Make sure to partition!!

Mark G., Newegg
11 October 2013
  • Pros: Quiet and fast enough but be sure to partition this drive. When I first installed it in the enclosure neither Linux or Win 7 could see it. I logged into Linux and went into "fdisk" and noticed that it didn't have any kind of partition defined. I installed a NTFS partition on it and formatted it. ...
  • Cons: None except for the drive not having any partitions defined. That may throw off users who don't know to look. newegg may gets returns on good drives.

Not bad for the money

Anonymous, Newegg
2 October 2013
  • Pros: I purchased this HDD as a boot drive for my 2008 aluminum macbook. It served its purpose for two years and now acts as an external HDD. Still functions perfectly after three years. Highly recommended.
  • Cons: If only it were 7200 RPM...

Great Product for the price

Skilo73, Amazon
20 August 2013
  • Summary: Bought this hard drive to replace the original in my PS3. The installation was a breeze, after following the directions on the playstation website. The drive has had no problems. The drive is quiet and runs perfectly. Got it on sale, and the cost was the deciding factor in purchasing this product.

No Problems Yet

Ruger, Amazon
10 August 2013
  • Summary: I bought this hard drive as a replacement for a 120 gb Playstation 3 hard drive that was full and it has been working great so far. I finally have the space to download all the games and dlc I want and it actually seems quieter than the original Hitachi hard drive.
